Gender Stereotypes
The event I identify with the most is the scene when the little girl is hiding under her bed and her dad comes home and makes everything better. No matter how scared she was her dad came home and he made all her fears go away with a simply, made up story that made her feel safe. It is hard for me to identify with the Middle Eastern family because they are in constant fear of being robbed and being discriminated towards and I as a blonde, teenage, caucasian girl do not have those problems.
2. The scene that affected me most was when the Middle Eastern man “shot” the little girl. All she wanted to do was go to her daddy and save him and she nearly died in the process.
3. I think the movie accomplishes reinforcing stereotypes. It shows

The characters treated each other very poorly. If you were a different skin tone, you were discriminated against. When a different race was discriminated, they sometimes lashed out in anger towards the race doing the discriminatory action.
5. Racism in this movie is obvious. Discrimination is shown when Mrs. Cabot gets angry about the Hispanic man that changes the locks in their home after their car was stolen by two African American men just hours before. In real life people act the same way Mrs. Cabot did. Her actions were not a new thing never heard of before. Many people get scared when African Americans are in the area and sometimes people avoid African American neighborhoods due to scared feelings and stories that come from

I disagree with this statement. Throughout the film, the cast is constantly scared of other races but they didn't have to be. Your parents raise you to be the person they would like you to be but you do not have to stay racist if you don't want to and you don't have to become a racist if you do not want to. A time that I have been aware of my own prejudice was when my uncle took a wrong turn in Chicago and we ended up in a very bad neighborhood and I got scared that some gang banger would come and try to take our car when maybe it was a nice area it just didn't look like it because other people ruined it. My neighborhood is fairly new and it is very nice, but a lot of black families have moved in over the years and for some reason the kids across the street call my sister and I racist because we are not friends with them and we would not let them jump on your trampoline and they thought it was because they are black but really we just don't talk to them and they are mean to our dogs so we don't want them in our backyard. Prejudice can be overcome by just being a good -person and being kind to everyone you come in contact with and letting younger generations see you do these nice things so they grow up and be nice to minorities

The viewers were able to see discrimination. The flim showed how white people was being ruthless to the African American community. Police was being lenient about the activity that was taking place in the community and wasn’t caring for nobody. There were scenes in the movie where it got place but, the most famous scene was when Radio Raheem had an altercation with Sal owner of the pizzeria. As the argument took place outside, I riot broke loose. Raido Raheem was fighting sal and an officer put him in a illegal…

I had always heard of the things that were happening, but I had never truly seen what was being done. When I saw the bodies being pushed by the bulldozer it really hit me how terrible it was and that there was no limit, no stability or safety, no laws or order. These people were being denied so many of the basic needs on Maslow's Hierarchy. It was terrible for those who died, but for the ones who kept on living it was even worse. They had to live right next to their dead loved ones and endure the same treatment they did and they still pushed on! They still refused to give in and persevered through this atrocity. Another scene that really affected me was when the camera was panning over rooms full of hair. It was an awful scene and it showed how the Nazis treated the Jews as something to profit off of and how they saw them as less than human. Again this shows the power of the survivors who kept their humanity despite being treated terribly and…

The first example of discrimination which causes a huge problem is the discussion of race. Even though the book is written based in the nineties, it was still looked at as frowned upon to be in an interracial relationship. One day while the author was jogging through the park he noticed a very dark black man and a blonde woman jogging with a little terrier. He noticed that when the man turned the corner the first the day he peered behind him at the woman. The next day however he noticed the woman running in front of him and the man, already had passed the turn, again looked back at the woman. He sees these two people everywhere and wonders why they just cannot be together. He discusses it with his friend Joe Odem who tells him, “We don’t do black-on-white in Savannah…especially black male on white female,” (Berendt 55). Joe goes on to tell him that “A lot of things have changed over the past 20 years, but not that”( Berendt 55). However this is not the first time the author faces the harsh discrimination against African Americans in Savannah. Throughout the novel, the author attends these parties where the whole help staff is African American, from the caterer to the waiters and waitresses. There was one woman in particular, Lucille Wright. She was a light-skinned black woman who was known as one of Savannah’s leading hostesses who had catered several events for the rich people of…

There were tons of key moments that impacted me and once that just did not make a big dent. I already listed a few moments that had a negative effect on me. The International Sign Language Theatre Festival towards the end of the film was amazing. I wish I could have gone, there were different acts from around the world, different types of acts, and a great thought. It was interesting to the different types of sign language across the world. It is similar to speaking, for example, certain countries have different type of language and that is the same with signing. Its inspirational characters and messages really made me think deeper into deaf culture. I wanted to learn more about deaf culture and more signing than just American Sign Language. The four many characters all touched my heart in different ways. Robert, the actor, no matter…

Even in the advanced world we live in today, racism is still a strong presence in our everyday lives. Racism today can be seen in a variety of ways that are different than past displays. For instance, my friends that attended public high schools said that they noticed more racism from African Americans toward Caucasians than vice versa. In a lot of movies that are released in theaters today, it seems that the directors do a very good job of not displaying racism in movies, unless the movie is obviously about racism. In one of Mel Brooks’ most well known movies the 1974 film, Blazing Saddles, racism is shown in a different manner than almost any other film. In this movie, racism is depicted as more of a comedy. Cleavon Little plays the role of the first black sheriff in a town scheduled to be demolished by a railroad that is in line for construction. Blazing Saddles is the perfect film to social commentary on racism because as Mel Brooks uses racism in a comedy goes to show how racism has more of a role of comedic relief in this film, not something to run one’s life by.…

We are a society that is scared to take risks in fear of being rejected. I even found myself falling for the stereotypes before the movie got started. In the film, everyone had similar physical attributes. But contrary to the assumptions and stereotypes that the police officers had, it wasn’t any of the individuals with darker skin that was causing the problems. Until the commotion on the train, it seemed that everyone was happy and accepting of on another. Everyone, light skin, dark skin, old, and young were all coexisting until the end of the ride when the fight broke out. The African American individuals didn’t stand a chance against the police officers. We are taught as a society that we obey law enforcement, and that is exactly what all the men were doing. The officers in the film had a tainted view of the reality of how many African American’s actually commit crimes. 28% of all arrests are African American, this just happens more often in bigger cities so the officers could have got the perspective that it was without a doubt Oscar and his friends that committed the crime (Morris, 2014). Black to white violent crimes are also treated more harshly and generally serve longer sentences than black to black violent crimes (Morris, 2014). These examples are also a result of symbolic interaction. The individuals formed how they would interpret society. They formed a…

Although I may not accept the “truth” as my own, I see that the author has arrived at it through her own experiences. When Lee was five years old, nine young black men were accused of raping two white women. Because of the time period, racial prejudice was a key factor to almost every event that occurred with multicultural people. This novel seems to be very honest to me and I believe most people feel the same way. The author went through many experiences that affected her and made her who she is today. Though racial prejudice does occur now, I feel that it affected those in the 1930’s more so. The characters that Lee composed got the point across and made each individual who read this story feel and understand the heartache that she dealt on a different…

I see that the main characters mother and father avoid the issues of racism in many ways throughout the story. Her mother overlooks racism and her father tries to make up for it. In the story her mother packs a bag of food for the train ride. She does this so that her family can avoid the food cart. By packing an elaborate picnic her mother successfully avoids the racism ther would surely have encountered if they would have attempted to eat in the dining car. I strongly…

In the beginning of the novel, the racial tolerance was shown towards colored people because whites thought they were better than the colored people. For example, a character from the Novel, Miss Hilly, wanted to pass a bill called the Home Help Sanitation Initiative. This means that their hired help should have their own bathroom outside. This is showing racial tolerance because colored people are not clean enough to use their employer’s bathroom indoors. The colored people had their own neighborhood and had to be segregated from the white people. The colored had their own bus, hospital, and bathroom even when they were at work. Racism is also shown by the colored people not being allowed to be seen with the whites unless they were working for them. Another black maid, Minny, was accused of stealing silver from her employer, Miss Hilly. Soon after being accused of this crime, Minny was fired and could not find a job with another landowner. This is racism because Miss Hilly ruined Minny’s life and did not think twice about it or care at all. This is how racism was shown in the beginning of the novel.…

One of the many ways in which the media treat men and women differently is in the way that the news covers female and male politicians. Female politicians in general receive less coverage than male politicians, and the coverage they do receive is often more focused on their appearance and personal life rather than their policies and positions. When people see female politicians being treated this way by the media, they may begin to value women less in leadership positions. Media can have a huge influence on people’s views and opinions, and seeing women in leadership positions, or running for leadership positions, being belittled trivialized can be very damaging to society’s view of female leaders. This coverage can also have a negative effect…

During my life I've experienced a handful of prejudices and stereotypes for example one stereotype I encounter a lot is that all light skin people are rude and stuck up but when I'm actually kind and down to Earth I just have a natural mean face. Another stereotype I unfortunately get a lot is that I think I'm better than everyone else because I have light skin and long hair which isn't true at all I think that everyone's equal and all the same because we bleed the same blood, walk the same Earth, breath same air and we're all just human so I can't be greater than someone else. I feel that these stereotypes are just stupid and need to forgotten about because it causes your view to change about a person just by the way they look and what their skin color is.…

I enjoyed multiple stories in this film. The first story that stood out for me the most was the mother who had cancer. This story was extremely sad for me because I could not picture my mother in that position. I believe they are communicating through filming because the mother wants to put her story out there. By watching this film the mother seems like she is a strong person who does not mind putting her story out there because she does not want anyone to feel like they are the only ones going through this experience. My reaction was surprised when I saw her marks on her back from the cancer. I did not think she would show that on camera to the world. In her case I believe that verbal communication was the most affective especially when she was talking to her son. The next story that stood out for me was the older couple who wrote their vows for each other. I found that clip humorous. I believe for them communicating verbally is special for them to share what they want for each other. Just from watching their clip I could get an insight of their life just by the way they jokes with each other in their vows. It is easy to tell that they have a strong marriage and are not afraid to joke around with each other.…

    Paris I Love You

Personally, I enjoyed each scene because it was not all the same but it showed different sides to love that we may all have experienced or know someone who has. The movie showed how love does not have to be just two human beings loving each other but so can vampires or mimes. Some parts in the film was sad like when the mother lost her son and she was hallucinating about seeing him and how she did not want to let him go. Also I liked the end of that scene when her husband asked her where did she get her strength from and she said God. I thought that that ending was so powerful, when you have just hit rock bottom and nothing can be done about it, God will be there to comfort and lift you back up. Another scene I enjoyed was with the muslin girl named Zarka and the boy who was studying history, how it was love at first sight. While his other friends were talking sexually to other females, this boy just had eyes for Zarka, even though she was different in ethnic, religion or where she can from did not change his love for her. I really liked when he ran after…
