are considering hybrids or electric powered cars for their next car purchase. However, that is not…
I think hybrid vehicles became popular more fast than other cars because it gave people the choice of which fuel they wanted to use. Hybrid vehicles can run on electricity and or gasoline. Hybrid vehicles gives you more mileage and allows you to go further for longer, when you run out of gas you can go on electricity.…
These hybrid car pose many environmental impacts such as smog producing gases. Hybrid cars can produce fewer gas emissions then conventional cars, but not less than we think. The issues with plug-in hybrid cars is that the electricity they use comes from our existing power grid. The most of our electricity comes from coal and a little from nuclear power, which is in fact nasty to our environment. A hybrid vehicle can be as much as 20 percent more expensive than conventional cars. To determine the actual fuel savings over a typical year of driving, compare the operating cost of a hybrid versus a standard model. A U.S. Department of Transportation summary, dated February 2003, reports the average American driver between the ages of 34 and 55 drives 15,291 miles annually (see References 4). Divide this annual mileage figure by 21 miles to the gallon for the standard model, and you will find that you would buy about 728 gallons of gasoline a year. In contrast, if you divide the annual miles figure by 30 for the hybrid, you would determine that the annual gas purchase…
Clarissa Harlowe "Clara" Barton was a pioneer nurse who founded the American Red Cross. In addition to being a hospital nurse, she worked as a teacher, patent clerk, and humanitarian. At a time when relatively few women worked outside the home, Barton built a career helping others. She was never married, as she knew the restrictions of a married woman at the time, but had a relationship with John J. Elwell. During the end of the American Civil War, Barton worked at a hospital she made helping the people at the Andersonville prison camp where 13,000 people died.…
“Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, the wretched refuse of your teeming shore, send the homeless tempest-tost to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door.” Reference? America has long been the land of freedom and hope to the world, and the American military is what has kept her that way. People have forgotten how important and valuable the military is to the world that we live in. As part of the Budget Control Act of 2011, automatic sequestration calls for $1.2 trillion in lowered federal spending, with 50% coming from defense and 50% coming from non-defense budgets. If Congress cannot reach an agreement, these cuts will reduce the Department of Defense spending by about $55 billion dollars. On September 11, 2001, the United States faced a difficult time in which 3,000 lives were lost due to an attack upon the U.S. by terrorists who hijacked airplanes and crashed them into the Twin Towers in New York City, the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia, and the United States Pennsylvania! That day, 9/11, has become a day in which we remember the lives that were lost and the families who were affected by such a tragedy. We called on our military once again, and they were there to protect our country. I am against automatic sequestration towards the military and military programs for many reasons.…
Porfirio Diaz was known as a dictator for many years, but what most people don’t know is that he made great progress in the economy, politics, and modernized the country. He lasted more or less 30 years in power. He brought a lot of technology and industry development to Mexico. This helped Mexico’s economy. This was important because Mexico faced many problems in that time. Some problems were that there was no money in the country, the ports were insecure so the boats didn’t wanted to go out there, drains were bad so the city was flooded, the country have many debts, mining was a chaos, and they have political instability. When Porfirio came to power he helped the technology increase, the drainage problems and the brought the railroad.…

Gangs used to be about just wearing the wrong colors or being on the wrong street. Now gang life is about drugs, weapons, payback, and recruiting new members. Children are being killed for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Mothers are losing their children because of gang violence. Crime is constantly rising because of the street gangs. Also, the property value is going down because of the areas with more gang violence.…
The most persuasive essay that we have read in class at the moment is From “Resistance to Civil Government” by Henry David Thoreau. It explains why the people have the right to resistance, the importance of majority opinion, and go against the government. Thoreau uses strong logical, emotional, and ethical appeals throughout the story to express his reasons for standing against the government.…
Many movies, television shows, music songs, and video games are filled with violence: murder scenes, nonstop profanity, rape and torture scenarios. By placing scenes like these in the movies for the children and teenagers to see, the media is causing them to become more violent than it already is. What has our society come to these days? Everywhere we look, violence is present; in the streets, back alleys, schools, and even at home. Even if one might be a pacifist, violence will keep its way into our homes through the television. Many parents these days are busy with their work, and sometimes it is hard to keep track what their children do. They are working singles or couples who must rely on others for the parenting and raising their children. Even baby sitters use television as the easiest source of entertainment for the children. Since every family has televisions and the children play video games almost every day, truly the media affects the children. The average hours of American youth watching television is about four hours, which means children spend more time watching television than in any other activity, except sleep, after school. So, parents should control the television that children watch. They need to be aware that media violence affects in the real world.…
In times like today, people have mixed views on smoking and on the effects it has on the human body. Most people who smoke, feel that non-smokers are against them, and believe in the myths that are portrayed by cigarette companies. They do not realize how addictive cigarettes are, and end up stuck with the burden. I feel that her entire article is truly opinionated and biased about non-smokers and she really doesn’t have the hard evidence, just personal experience.…
“Euthanasia”, “mercy killing”, and “physically assisted suicide” – no matter what it is called – they all mean the same thing: ending a person’s life who is in a vegetative state or who is suffering from terminal illness, in order to relieve the subject of pain and suffering associated with their condition. But the main question is, is euthanasia right? Everyone dies, and if a person is terminally ill, then they should have the right to decide to pass away without the suffering.…

Due to the financial crisis there have been many changes made to government programs to reduce costs and help with debt. Many of these cuts are happening statewide, in America’s public schools. The first programs that are being cut are the art programs, and the excuse is that the core classes are more important. The argument is that children need to be more focused on test scores in Math, Science, English and History. It is unfair to single out art classes, there should be a more even spread of budget cuts, not just the sole elimination of the arts. There are parents who are indifferent with the arts and they are unfazed by their removal from elementary public schools. What many of these parents do not recognize is that there are actually benefits of the arts that help with core subjects. Some benefits are strengthening problem solving skills, stimulating critical thinking and helping developmental growth. There is also a duel component that shows that there is a direct correlation between SAT test scores and art programs in schools, as well as higher participation and attendance. It has also been shown that the arts can help boost the economy.…
It is common knowledge that environmental problems are getting worse every day. For a long time now, generations have been partially negligent about these issues. The world is the house of humanity: if we make our best to keep our houses clean and tidy, why not doing the same thing with our planet? In my opinion, hybrid cars are a huge component of the future of environmental awareness. Petrol cars should be replaced for hybrid cars. These cars are not only fuel efficient, but also they are much cleaner than normal vehicles (lesser CO2 and other greenhouse gas emissions). A hybrid car uses two energy sources for its functioning: it does use gasoline, but in a much smaller amount, thanks to an electric motor, which exists for acceleration. It is true that the electricity used to charge electric vehicles comes from a source that emmits CO2, but this CO2 production is aproximately one-half of a combustion vehicle. Then, hybrid cars are not only a way to reduce polution, but also a way to avoid the crisis after the peak oil (a peak oil is the point in time when, after the maximum rate of petroleum extraction is reached, it declines). By making the petroleum industry dispensable, the planet would have even more advantages. First of all, oil extraction is costly. Oil spills have made huge damages on environment for years, and the planet was obliged to spend thousands of dollars in that account. Reducing spending in oil industry would allow investing in newer and safer fuels.…
