The presence of Natural Gas in Bangladesh has been established through exploration by Bangladesh’s public energy company, Petrobangla, and more recently international oil and gas companies (IOCs) have established the existence of a significant energy source.

[edit]Estimated reserves
In recent years, several trillion cubic feet (TCF) of natural gas have been added to the confirmed 10.5 TCF known as of 1996. Due to the fact that there has been comparatively little exploration to date, estimates of the total extractable natural gas resource in Bangladesh are uncertain and vary widely. An estimate of 20 TCF is gaining acceptance among experts, but some argue that experiences in comparable basins elsewhere in the world suggest that the ultimate recoverable resource could be as high as 50 TCF or even 100 TCF.
At the current rate of natural gas use in Bangladesh (1000 mmcfd), the current estimated proven reserves would last 45 years. Even if the present rate of use increases at 10 per cent per year, these reserves would last about 17 years. A reserve-production Reserves-to-production ratio of 17 is higher than that for most industrial countries heavily dependent on natural gas, examples beingNorway, Canada, U.S., and U.K. Here only the R/P ratio of gas is being considered for comparison. Natural Gas may appear to look like forward moving progress in the field of non-renewable energy, since it is a cleaner energy source to burn compared to coal, but that is not necessarily the case. Due to a number of potential environmental issues brought on by the fracking process, we might not want to jump to any conclusions on which one is the ‘cleaner’ energy source.…

In the world we live in, the human population is dependent upon a seemingly endless list of objects and resources. The list consists of certain necessities that have been required since the dawn of man, including food, water, shelter, but the list is always increasing. In the past couple centuries it seems as if the list has increased at an exponential rate, adding staggering degrees of technology, sources of communication, and of course energy. One of the major sources of energy is natural gas.…

Domestic reserves of natural gas beneath the earth’s surface are massive. Gas drilling booms have popped up in numerous states throughout the country-Wyoming, Colorado, North Dakota, Arkansas, Louisiana, Texas and Pennsylvania, to name a few. Halliburton Corp. developed a way to mine horizontally. In 1990, boring parallel to the horizontal layers of shale exposed gas deposits, from which Halliburton reaped the profits. There is no denying that America needs alternative fuel sources, and this is one way to ease the demand on foreign oil. Ernest Moniz, director of MIT Energy Initiative, believes natural gas is a bridge to a low-carbon future until alternative sources such as wind, solar and geothermal become more viable. He states natural gas…

North America has been the leader in developing and producing hydraulic gas. Other countries such as China, Germany, Canada and Australia are now joining the trend. In an article by the Energy Information Administration states that 25% of the nation’s electricity is generated by natural gas. Also, that 46% of the new generating capacity added to the grid by 2035 will come from natural gas (EIA). Most of this natural gas will be produced right here in U.S. The scientists at U.S. Geological Survey states that natural…

In the near future the increased need for natural gases will have provided lots of jobs and will have opened up work for many people. The USA is now getting the natural gas we need from our country. Between 2007 and 2011 the amount of natural gas imports could be decreased by 25%. In the far future, natural gas prices will have dropped because of the now increasing supply. Also it was stated in the ucsusa website that, “Dramatically expanding the use of natural gas to generate electricity creates numerous and complex risks for our economy, our health, and our climate.” Land where fracking could take place will cost more, affecting local economies…

Natural gas is extremely useful in our lives. We need natural gases to heat our houses and use microwave ovens, conventional ovens and stovetops. Because the economy currently isn’t well off – and hasn’t been recently – natural gases are now in higher demand for cheaper prices. Oil and gas drilling facilities are now making it possible for natural gases to be sold at extremely cheap prices and accessible amounts through the process of hydraulic fracturing. Before, the United States had to import energy sources, but now, thanks to hydraulic fracturing, the United States can export energy.…

Not only does natural gas provide over 25 percent of electricity generation, natural gas, and othergases extracted from natural gas provide a feedstock for fertilizers, chemicals and pharmaceuticals, waste treatment, food processing, fueling industrial boilers, and much more. Although natural gas prices in the United States have historically been volatile, the abundance of shale gas brings the possibility of low, stable prices. North America has approximately 4.2 quadrillion (4,244 trillion) cubic feet of recoverable natural gas that would supply 175 years worth of natural gas at current consumption rates. Further, the National Petroleum Council estimates that fracking will allow 60 percent to 80 percent of all domestically drilled wells during the next 10 years to remain…
