Recommendation

After analyzing the current situation of the firm and the market we would recommend that Ganong should discontinue the product lines that are not profitable (exhibit 1). Secondly Ganong should become more proactive in the private label sector (exhibit 5). Third Ganong should improve the effectiveness of their sales force and receivable staff (exhibit 4). This will improve the firm’s people and production processes as well as give the company a new opportunity for growth in this competitive industry

First we must get rid underperforming sales people to save cost. The saved cost will allow Gangong to explore enhance brand awareness in areas that are profitable for us such as Ontario. Next our sales force must also change the way they sell. We must take our highest achieving sales people and focus them on selling private label contracts. By implementing the above options we can expect an improvement in the firm’s profitability through increase sales and lower cost (exhibit 2). Lastly our accounts receivables are much higher then the industry medians and our inventory cost are increasing every while our finished goods are increasing (exhibit 4). Once this is accomplished we will certainly see an improvement in the profitability of the

After analyzing the way Strong Tie has managed their goods. Their Raw Material Turnover was close to par with benchmark numbers at 27 days which means they have been converting the raw materials into finished goods on exceptional timing. The days in Work in Progress was also progressing at a healthy rate going from 4.5 days in 2006 to nearly 1 day in 2008. In other words, they were able to finish goods at faster rates. With these two healthy rates, there should have been increasing profits, however one variable was stopping it from happening; Days in Finished Goods. Strong Tie’s most profitable year was 2006 where days in finished goods was 45 which was close to on par with the benchmark of 51. But by 2008, Strong Tie had finished goods flying off the shelves by 26 days. If customers are buying the products this fast, the prices of these goods are way too low which has resulted in a substantial loss of profit. Therefore the first recommendation would be to increase prices substantially.…

First of all, we will start off explaining our sales throughout these oh so quick eight quarters. In quarter 1 our sales raised up to a meager 36,000. In quarter 2 we made no major changes and because of that we only increased our sales by 1,375, only to take a turn for the worst in quarter 3. In quarter 3, we ended up with less sales than in quarter 2. This more than likely was attributed to the Minicase decision to change the locks. This lead to a suspicion of drug usage, which, if it is true, would obviously lead to a drop in sales. In quarter 4 it shot up to 40,028, then to 43,l287 in quarter 5, and eventually to 47,940 in quarter 6. The reason for this rapid rise in sales is because of 2 reasons. The first reason is because I am awesome at running a business, and the second reason is because we added a sales person to go from 3 to 4 as well as increasing pretty much everything: Market Research, Product Development, Quality Management, and Advertising and Promotion. The last 2 quarters just hovered around that same number. Quarter 7 was 44,820 and quarter 8 was 48,650. So where we were when we bought this company from the losers who couldn't manage the business was right around 35,000 sales a quarter, we have now raised that number to around 47,000 sales a quarter, and where we want to go is increase sales to around 60,000 a quarter and lower the price of a unit a small amount.…

However, this competitive edge has been compromised due to problems being faced in terms of productivity (caused bottlenecks, shifting bottlenecks and improper utilization of labor), quality of the product being manufactured (high rate of product return has been a major problem), and problems associated with the delivery of the final order (most of the shipments are dispatched towards the end of the month). These problems have begun to hamper the overall performance of the firm, and the management has started evaluating the company’s position and different strategic policies to overcome those problems.…
