Australians are stereotyped to be the fun, outgoing, friendly people who sit and watch their footy, surf and drink beer all day but Australians are certainly not that stereotype anymore. The new stereotype is Racist, in denial people who sit and watch there footy whilst yelling racial slurs. Recently the name ‘Adam Goodes’ has popped up in the Media quite a lot due to the racism backlash he has received. Adam Goodes has been playing footy since 1999 and has many achievements including 2x Brownlow medals, 2 AFL Premierships and Goodes even became Australian of the year in 2014. So, why should a worthy Australian receive such vicious vitriol?
Another incident with Goodes was in the indigenous round. Goodes performed a tradional indigenous spear-throwing dance into the crowd of fans from the opposing team. The opposing team booed Goodes claiming that his dance was violent and wrong. In New Zealand they perform their native dance ‘The Hakka’ towards the opposing team, a round of applause and respect follows ‘The Hakka’. However Goodes Australian dance is followed by boos, perhaps Goodes should of done the dance to his opposing team instead of the crowd or maybe fans who don’t like indigenous dances shouldn’t go to Indigenous Round games. …show more content…
Adam Goodes has a very ‘Goode’ AFL history including two Brownlow medals, two premierships, three time Sydney Swans leading goal kicker, Goodes was picked four times to be in the AFL ‘All Australian’ team, Goodes won ‘AFL rising star’ and is also in the ‘Indigenous team of the Centaury’ team. There are 71 Indigenous players in the AFL and Adam Goodes is the only one booed which clearly proves that Goodes has either rubbed fans up the wrong way or is being booed due to his ‘Goode’ footy skills.
