GRCC Campus Police Department
Grand Rapids Community College, one of the oldest community college in Michigan, built in 1914, who has the best safety environment for all students and employee. The GRCC Campus Police Department provide safety and have full law enforcement authority and responsibility, including the authority to arrest individuals who commit crimes on campus. Campus Police Department also have a total of sixteen officers, three police cars, police bicycles, and is not open twenty-four hours.
GRCC Campus Police Department provide severals service to all visitors, students, and employees. The Campus Police Department provide services that the police department does not provide such of, escort service to students/employees cars, or from building to building,

The pedestals will ring directly into the Campus Police Dispatch during regular hours and to the Grand Rapids Police Department after the GRCC Campus Police is close. Students and employees can call 4911 in an emergency from college phone, or 4010 from any college phone (non-emergencies), and can also use the one-touch CODE 2 button on any classroom or office phone.
The last year crime reports have been low as mentioned before, the Campus Police Department have been made all reports of the past years. The Campus Police have made several arrest well last year they made one arrest of staking, nine of drug law violations, two of liquor law violations, and one of domestic assault. Through years, the crimes have been decreasing and nowadays the campus have been considered the safety of crimes.
During my shadow job with Nowak police officer, I realize that I didn’t know how to used a yellow code blue emergency pedestals, or what number I have to type to make an emergency call. Also, I notice that campus police officer provides several services to students that regular officers do not provide. The officers made a great job and sometimes we the students do not realize the importance of having a Campus Police Department. For me was a great experience and I recommended to all students to research more about our campus police officers they are making a great job to maintain us

    By stipulating the specifics of what is considered the “college campus”, crimes are only reported for the campus itself and not the surrounding neighborhood. In addition, if students experience crime off-campus and from a non-student they are not obligated or legally required to report it. But, if they do experience crime or sexual assault on-campus or from a student, and they disclose this information to someone, that person is legally required to report the crime. Under the Clery Act, specific people at college campuses are trained and informed of their position to legally report any sexual assault they hear of, and to provide support for the victim. These are called Campus Security Authorities (CSAs) and include anyone who has direct contact with students such as: dean of students, housing and residential life personnel, student code or discipline, greek affairs, athletics, physicians in health center, counselors/victim advocates, and other safety staff.
