Friendship And Loyalty In The Outsiders
An Important idea in The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton is the idea of friendship and loyalty. This idea is shown through the members of the gang The Greasers. They teach us the value of real friendship. We see friendship and loyalty is important because it gives people love, security and the opportunity to be themselves and not be judged for it.
We see the how friendship and loyalty can make someone feel loved and wanted in the chapter when friends are special and having one is good.
In this chapter Johnny looks after PonyBoy and Dally helps Johnny by giving him a gun.
When Johnny Cade tells PonyBoy “Stay gold and it means when you see something new its gold”. This shows us that it makes PonyBoy understand the quote and he knows who he is.

    To begin to build up the story, Ponyboy informed Cherry Valance of the time when Johnny got attacked by a group of Socs. Ever since the day of the beating, Ponyboy tells the readers that Johnny personality changed. “Johnny was jumper than ever... Johnny, who was the most law-abiding of us, now carried in his back pocket a six-inch switchblade.” (Hinton, 34) This shows that ever since the incident, Jonny endured both physical and emotional pain, which caused him to be more wary of people surrounding him.
