The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is an agency of highly disciplined and trained people whom sometimes, although not terribly often, do the wrong thing. We were taught at an extremely young age that the police are friends of the community. There are honest and dishonest people in all societies, as well as in the police department. A police officer’s mission is to enforce the law which citizens mandate through Congress.…

When a new recruit joins a police force he is bursting with excitement and anticipation to fulfill all of the principles and standards that come with being a police officer: dedication, loyalty, trust and integrity. He has a high set of standards and a set of goals he wants to achieve as an officer of the law such as stopping crime, improving the moral of the neighborhoods and becoming a positive mentor to the youth of the community. He has a new sense of belonging; he is now a member of a team, a brotherhood, an official member of an elite club; he is an officer of the law.…
The career I desire in Criminal Justice is in Law Enforcement as a Police Officer. Police officers apprehend criminals, write tickets, investigate crimes and ensure that the protection of the criminal justice system is available. All law enforcement agencies require that new applicants have completed a law enforcement training academy and at least 2 years of college, although some departments require only a high school diploma and a clear criminal record but an associates or a bachelor degree is prefer. However all applicants must meet all of the written, psychological and physical standards applied by the POST exams and pass a background check and a polygraph test.…
I have chosen to return to school and pursue a Master’s degree in Criminal Justice for a couple of reasons. The first reason is to increase my personal knowledge of the Criminal Justice system which includes police trends, criminal/civil courts, juvenile justice and other aspects of law enforcement. During my experience as commissioned officer for the past four years I have learned that in order to consider myself as an experienced officer and train others in law enforcement, I have to increase my knowledge base in all areas of Criminal Justice through education. This would give me credibility if I chose to be a Field Training Officer or an instructor at a law enforcement training academy. In order for me to be confident in a supervisory position…
The University of Texas at Austin is one of the most prestigious schools in the United States, it is among one of the highest in graduation rates, campus size and amount of students that attend there. While the University of Texas has such a high attendance of students that go there, the local municipal departments of Austin is right along the road with honors and recognition. Though the city of Austin is not big in citizen count, the local municipal department has its work cut out for them, the crime rate is not low for its amount of citizens the city has in total. We shall compare these two police departments that will be covering the University of Texas and also we will also cover the local Austin police department. The areas we will be covering will include agency’s staffing, divisions and services. Then we will cover the area of the organizational structure, crime statistics and other pertinent features from those agencies. And finally we shall enter the communication and see if the two agencies work together side by side in the city of Austin. The methods that we are going to be using in this research from the two agencies will be from the department’s websites that have their information in the website from those agencies. The data we will be covering from the websites will cover the staffing how available it is for the public, then the divisions from the departments and what those divisions offer.…

When I joined the police department, I knew I wanted to be a part of something great. I wanted to leave a legacy and make an impression on others. I was the first in my family to choose a career in law enforcement, so initially, I was unaware of the challenges this career field came with. My mom was a teacher, and my dad worked in the printing business. Both were successful in their chosen fields, but they were blind to the demands required for a fulfilling career in law enforcement. To be successful, I would need to be observant of those around me who had found success. I would need to mirror their ways and incorporate their habits into my own. I would need to learn from their failures. Most importantly, I would need to learn what made them…
The police academy training also prepares police officers for active duty. The training probably has to be the hardest obstacle for me because it requires intense physical workouts. The first week in training I will have to run, and do calisthenics, which consists of push-ups, crunches, and jumping jacks. I will also have to use the medicine ball to do sit-ups, twist and hand offs, curls presses and extended workouts. Each week I will have to do the sets and reps for these physical workouts and each week the exercises double , so I will have to do double the work.…
I wish to attend the Fairfax County Teen Police academy this summer, because I've always had the dream of becoming a police officer. I've always wanted to give back to my community by upholding the law and to serve and protect others. With the amount of hate I see towards cops, it intrigues me to become one. It seems like people nowadays don't respect the police as much as they used to. Which is what I want to change, I want others to see that cops are the good guys and what we do is saving your life. As I've grown up, I haven't really accomplished much. My sister had a successful journey with basketball. Where as I’ve seemed to be in the shadows, not doing much. That's why I think becoming a police officer will go towards me having an impactful…
Since I was a small child, seven or eight years of age, my desire to be in law enforcement has remained strong. I have expired the searching of other careers, and come up short. As I grew older, I consulted with those I respect, seeking their wisdom in my career path. This choice had not been fashioned lightly. I am convinced, at this point in my life, serving as a law enforcement officer is my calling. My ability to serve our community and nation, as a law enforcement officer, is a great passion of mine. I am compelled to serve those around me, by protecting the innocent and carrying out justice to the guilty.…
