Flight Scene Monologue
My sister Whitney and I were on our flight home from Kenya. We had about two hours left in flight when the flight attendant said that we were experiencing some bad turbulence, but not to panic. Whitney was a few years younger than me and didn’t understand exactly what was happening and she immediately freaked out. I told her not to worry about it and we continued to finish our episode of Scream Queens. A couple of minutes later the whole plane started shaking and you could see the fear and panic on everyone’s face. You could tell we were all thinking the same thing “What if this plane crashes?” As if reading our minds the flight attendant came on the intercom and said “Everyone please take the proper safety precautions and prepare for an emergency landing.”
Chaos erupted everywhere as people frantically grabbed their oxygen mask.

They were there to help build houses, play with the children, and feed the hungry. They had been gone for three weeks, so we were very excited to have them back home. We waited for a “We just landed” text for hours before the news came on. It flashed up, ‘PLANE CRASH’. All that came into my mind was them. Then the flight number, 7802. It was. It was their plane. The news reporter stated, “So far we know of three deaths, including one women. There are thirty-five injured and about nineteen missing.” Frantic, my wife and I tried calling their cell phones, but they both went straight to voicemail. I told my wife not to worry and that I was sure they were just fine, even though I wasn’t too sure of that

It was unusually cold on this morning of September 11th, 2001, and my alarm had just went off. The odd but needed 5 am. was when I woke up, because my flight was going to leave around 8:30 and I needed to be there on time. The reason I was flying to San Francisco was I was having a family reunion with my dad, my step-mom, and my step-brothers. So, I jumped in the shower quickly with joy and excitement. I hadn't seen my family in forever since I had gotten a job as the assistant of the manager in Ralph Lauren Headquarters. I had just gotten my hair dried as I heard my phone ring. It was dad, making sure that I was on my way. I talked to him for a few minutes and then hung up. I glanced at the clock and realized…

Because I was at the back, I couldn't tell what was going on in the first class section. Three people with red bandannas entered the cockpit. The had left one person outside of the cockpit who was holding something in his hand. After a minute or so, they came back out of the cockpit dragging two bodies behind them. They went back in the cockpit and within a minute we were told from the new pilot that they had a bomb on board. They allowed us to make phone calls. I was the first one to be able to make a call. My parents didn't pick up the phone, so I left a message telling them that my plane had been hijacked. After I left a message, I sat down in my seat and let others…

When I was 2 years old, my mother and I were waiting for my father to get off a long-delayed flight. This was before 9/11 when entering the terminal without a ticket was permitted. An irate passenger waiting for the next flight to depart demanded that the crew let him board the plane immediately, apparently undeterred by the lack of an aircraft on the other side of the plate glass window. He filled the area with tension as he stomped around the seating area, ranting vociferously into a cell phone about the outrageous inconvenience the delay was causing to his very busy schedule. The flashy display of this cutting edge technology was proof positive that he was a VIP, at least in his own mind. To the delight of the other passengers and crew,…

For most of the 100 or so sleepy-eyed people boarding the U.S. Airways shuttle to Boston from New York on a recent hazy Saturday morning, the 35-minute flight could not have been a bigger non-event. But that was not the case for about 20 passengers clustered nervously near the gate. Many clutched puzzle books and bags of sour candy as though they held talismans. Some made nervous jokes, others sobbed quietly. “I have pills with me just in case of an emergency,” said a teenage girl who planned to distract herself on the flight with celebrity magazines. Mariasol Flouty, a 44-year-old software developer from White Plains, held fast to her Sudoku book. “I had plane-crash nightmares,” she confessed. “I woke up very tense.” No one was more terrified than Beth Brenner, a 45-year-old mother of two teenagers from Somers, N.Y. “I was hysterical last night,” she said, “but my son said, ‘You’re going to be O.K.’ ” Ms. Brenner was crying quietly on the…

About five minutes after the announcement students were able to call family members. My dad without any hesitation called his mother and learned that she was fine, and on the way home. Then sometime had elapse but it hadn’t past more than two hours. When suddenly, we noticed that there was a lot of border patrols passing by. One by one they passed through not stopping until they got to where they were going. The group of women had already left to the next stop we didn’t know where exactly was that other stop, so we went outside to go check what was going on but mainly to check if they hadn’t been caught. My heart shatter into pieces when as the moment we stepped out we saw the three women being taken by the border patrol. They had them sitting down on the floor with hands behind their back. All the hopes and relief I had seen when they left was all gone once again. They went back to being afraid, afraid of not knowing what would their future hold, afraid of not being capable to supplying their families. I quickly remember that one of them had a child that was only four years old, but not only that but also that they had worked a lot to be able and gather some money to be able to come however they could. I wanted to do something, try to protect them, try to help them, try to show that they had a reason for why they had chosen that option, but I couldn’t…

I grew up in Vietnam and accepted Vietnam education during my childhood. It was July 19, 2011 when my parents had the opportunity to come to America as immigrants. I have great appreciation for my grandparents and parents because they gave up everything to come to America. They did this to give their children a better life and education. I still remember the day that I left my country; it was a beautiful memory that I won’t ever forget. The plane took off at 5:00 am, so we had to arrive at the airport at 3:00 am. All of my family was there with us, we were hugging and crying. It took all my strength and courage to keep from crying that day; I had to control my feelings. I couldn’t cry because if I cried it would’ve been too hard to say goodbye. Finally, I couldn’t control my tears; they raced down…

I was sitting in a restaurant along with my parents. The restaurant was on the first floor and we could see the busy Western Express Highway from the window. I was watching the cars, buses, and trucks speeding by. Just then I saw a bus trying to overtake another bus, but the gap was a bit narrow. The bus driver lost control and his bus hit the divider. It ran on the divider for a few seconds and then to my horror, it overturned. “Oh God,” I shouted. The overturned bus skidded and stopped in the middle of the road. My father too was watching the incident as it happened. He immediately called the Police and Ambulance from his cell phone. Meanwhile a huge rush had gathered near the overturned bus. Luckily there were only a few passengers in the bus who started coming out of the bus from the emergency window one by one. They were all hurt and some of them were bleeding. The public helped them come out of the bus and made them sit on one side.…

I was first to arrive at the wreckage. It was a head on collision caused by a dust storm. My brother had been slowing down when the Ford truck appeared out of nowhere sitting in the middle of the road. The first thing I noticed was that my brother’s girlfriend was hobbling around with one foot twisted a sick way. She was walking on her ankle and not her foot at all, I had come to realize as I dragged her away from my brother and into my truck. I had to do that because my brother was starting to panic and I couldn’t let him go into shock. I noticed blood on the airbags when I first glanced at the wreckage but thought nothing of it. As soon as she was safe I ran to my brother and he said calmly, “Mac I’m stuck, it’s bad, it’s real bad.”…
