Finding Your Worldview

According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, a worldview is “The way someone thinks about the world.” (Worldview). Everyone looks at the world differently because everyone is affected by the people in their life differently. Parents, friends, family, teachers, and even mere acquaintances can affect the way a person looks at the world around them. In Finding Your Worldview: Thinking Christianly about the World, the author uses the example of colored glasses. A class was sectioned into three parts. We begin to ask what it means to be human and if we are the most important beings on this planet. As a Christian, your identity comes from God. We are told in James 3:9 that we were placed here to glorify God. This means that everything about yourself should reflect God so that others can see him within in you. Having the identity of God means that we have to treat the earth and its inhabitants as God would. This answers the question of if man is more important than animals, because in Genesis 1:26 we are told that humans were placed in charge of the animals. The most distressing question we ask throughout our life is the question of meaning. We want to know why we are here and why we exist. John 17:3, and Mark 16:15 tell us that our purpose here on earth is to glorify God and spread his word. Once you accept Jesus into your heart and begin to read the bible and absorb its message your purpose in life is no longer a self-centered one. Is there life after death? What will happen when I die? Even if a person believes that there is no life after death, they will still question what happens to them after death at some point. For most, it is frightening to think that after your last breath is drawn you just cease to exist. Thankfully, as seen in John 3:16, the Christian worldview takes comfort with knowing that as a saved individual your eternity is in Heaven. Our worldview is again solidified on this matter in Romans 6:23, when we are told that sinning results in hell but that the Gift of God is eternal life. All of the questions feed into each other because you cannot have one without the other.
