Fifth Ear Research Paper
A shimmering glass jar 12 inches high and 6 inches wide, full of blue, green, red, brown, yellow, and orange M&M’s just sitting there waiting to be munched on. Fifth grade, what a year to be in school, everyone's goal was to eat candy and play. Before fifth grade I was homeschooled all my life and never knew what it was like to go to school, so going into fifth grade I didn't know anything other than doing school work and learning. When I first got to Baymonte we were learning things I already learned 2 years ago, thus I was far ahead all the other kids in math and english and history. I'm not going to lie I was the teacher's pet, if he needed something done I did it if he needed me to help someone with math I helped them and it was nice being the smart one. When I got home I immediately went grabbed a M&M and measured its volume by measuring the water it displaced and then I measured the volume of the jar with the measurements Spencer gave me. The next day at school I met spencer on the blacktop at told him that the number of M&M’s in the jar was 1436, he told me that the number he got was 140 so we both walked to the library and wrote our number on a slit of paper and waited. After about a week when I was in math class the loud speakers ding and someone says that the winner of the M&M jar competition was only one off from the answer and his name was Matias Pissanetzky. Everyone got up and congratulated me on winning the M&M’s. Later that day Spencer came up to me and patted me on the back and congratulated me, I gave him some of the M&M’s. Every time someone asks when I have used math in a real life situation I tell them this story or when someone asks what my favorite part of fifth grade was, I tell them the time I used math to get me a jar of free
