Personal Narrative: Working Outside Of High School
As I was sitting on the ground in the street, I heard a belt buckle jingle. I knew then that life was ending right then and there. Little did I know, my dad was already looking for me as I was riding my bike. My teacher had already called, explaining how I acted up in class that day. My dad took a swing and my leg suddenly unbroke and I ran for dear life. Of courses he eventually caught up with me and I sore for about a week straight. From that day, until school ended I hated that teacher, but I was her best student. I got everything taken from me including the bike. I never seen that bike again after that even until this day. The reason my academics aren’t going well as you or I would like is because of the several family issues I’ve had to face during my high school career. It began my Sophomore year, I found out my mom needed surgery in her arm so the chances of her cancer spreading would be reduced. I was under a great deal of stress worrying about my mother, taking care of my four siblings making sure they knew everything was going to be okay, even though I wasn’t sure myself. It was all up to me; while my other brother worked to help with bills, my mom being in the hospital, and my dad working. Taking care of my siblings consisted of cooking, homework, cleaning, nightly routine, and putting them to bed. When the work was done it would be around 10 o'clock. It was already tough to buckle down and focus on homework without all the stress. With all this my first semester grade was less than great.…

I learned a lesson all the way back in first grade, and that lesson has stuck with me ever since. I was coming in from recess, and I was talking to a friend of mine off to my left. Unfortunately, I was not watching where I was going. I kept barely taking glances of what was in front of me, and that was a huge mistake. Someone was running behind me, and wasn’t watching where they were going either. As I approached the building I heard yelling, but thought nothing of it. After all, recess had just finished, so obviously kids would be yelling, right? It turns out some kids had been playing tag, and decided to play until they got inside. One that was still running away, because God forbid he’d be “it,” was Nick.…

My goal in life after college is to procure a well paying job in the field of my passion; visual design. As an artist in the visual design world, my intention is to be able to work closely with architects; not only making their own business more efficient, but also collaborating with them to find more economical solutions to the common problems that plague the architectural world, such as: energy efficiency and aesthetic appeal. Outside of my professional interests, I pride myself on being a compassionate young man; therefore, by finding a career in my field of choice, I hope to be able to innovate ways to provide a stable house and home for those who cannot provide it for themselves.…

As a young girl, I experienced what at the time I thought was the end of the world. Yes, I was a little bit of a drama queen. One of the hardest experiences for me was having two shoulder surgeries in high school. Although it may not sound very traumatizing now, two surgeries meant that my cheerleading career of 14 years was over. When something that was such a big part of your life for so long is taken away in the blink of an eye, it feels like your whole world is crashing down! My senior year was exceptionally hard for me considering I was trying to make the perfect decision on my future college, my father was traveling 2 hours for work each week, and I was trying to recover from a right and left shoulder surgery. These surgeries prevented me from trying out of the cheer team as a fourth year member and it left me devastated. At the time, I was concerned about regaining…

In middle school, I was bullied for three years, but the worst year of all was my last year. The last year was rough for me because I was bullied constantly, online and in person. As a result, I did not think highly of myself and fell into depression. I felt angry, sad and lonely. I did not have a lot of friends during those three years and needless to say, my experiences were not great. This challenge was significant to me because the girls that bullied me left me with low self-esteem. I thought that after middle school, the bullying, the oppression, and the torment of not being liked would continue. I was wrong, I was not bullied ever again, but my self-esteem never recovered. Thankfully, one of my closest friends always reminds me that I…

Ever since I was little I knew I wanted to make a difference; whether it meant staying after school to help out, getting involved with the community or doing a bit more to try and make people happy. In the fourth grade I had finally built up enough courage to run from the student council and from there I worked my way up through the years. Student council has given me countless opportunities of leadership experiences that has made it easy for me to stand out in a crowd. An experience in which I knew the hard work had paid off was when it came to planning prom. The few other students working with me had slowly began to contribute less as it came closer to the day of prom. Leaving our teacher advisor and me to put in the extra hours and effort…
