Field Meeting Reflection
As a former physician assistant student, I am confident that my PA education will help me contribute to Mission Hospital’s Clinical Research team. During my PA courses, I learned about the steps of the drug development process, from Target Identification and Validation to Library and Preclinical Testing through FDA Approval. We also spent time analyzing the financial considerations of the drug development process as well as the ethical issues involved. Covered coursework included topics but are not limited to:

• Drug Discovery / Preclinical Testing • Clinical Trial Phases
• FDA Review / Approval Process • Phase IV – post-marketing testing
• Medical Ethics and Current Healthcare Issues • Conducting Studies and Incorporating Human Protections

Further, I strongly believe that my analytical background in finance, combined my medical training and coursework will aid me in the Clinical Research role. Finally, as a business professional, I have successfully demonstrated my capability to work in difficult and challenging situations while maintaining the utmost respect for all those I interact with while working diligently to build strong working relationships with all stakeholders.

I look forward to the opportunity to discuss my interests in Clinical Research and how I can be a valuable team member at Mission Hospital. I can be reached at 832-746-8275 and pvyas001@gmail.com. Thank you for your

The Pharmaceutical drug companies have a tendency to focus more on the sales and revenue than the research of any given product. This trend leads to misrepresentation of crucial scientific research on products. “A wide variety of research practices has been described as being used to distort the medical literature in favor of a clinical trial sponsor’s pharmaceutical intervention,” (Ross, Gross, & Krumholz, 2012, para. ).But also, not only do the drug companies practice unethical research studies, they spend money pushing products and incentives to physicians for writing the prescriptions for those drugs. That monetary value of those incentives is, often, more than the research on the drug itself. Two companies have been accused, tried, and charged for smudging results and falsifying findings for their benefit. It appears that pharmaceutical companies have interchanged the quest of treating and healing sickness and disease with the sole purpose of making money.…

During my practicum I was able to sit in on one PLC meeting. It was a little informal considering the principal was gone and the teachers mostly talked if they wanted to. We went into the teachers lounge and sat around the big table and just talked about who is struggling. We went over what students had troubles reading and how far behind they were. The physical education teacher takes certain students how need extra reading strategies for about twenty minutes. This happens everyday in the classroom I was in and it was always the same people that went for the extra work. Within the classroom that I was in, there were only three students who were in the below average reading line.…

I recently attended an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting for the first time. Because of the fact that I live in a small rural town, I had expected not to find a meeting anywhere in my local area. To my surprise, there were two different meeting locations all within walking distance from my house. The fact that my small town needed two separate meetings, and there were many others in nearby towns as well, was an eye opener for me.…

I attended a Board of Supervisors meeting on January 22, 2014. It was set to begin at six o’clock in the evening, and I began recording notes at 5:52. Before the start of the meeting a supervisor, Wayne Hazzard, greeted me and my father. At six, when it was slated to begin, Sean Davis banged his gavel to signify it has started. This followed with an invocation and the pledge of allegiance. Before the invocation Aubrey Stanley spoke of two tragedies involving deaths as of late to keep in our prayers.…
