Ffp Synthesis Paper
A Synthesis Paper for FFP
I.Introduction
As the first semester in college is about to start, I started to wonder what college would be like. I find it awkward at first, because this is my first time entering a university, a well-known and respected university. In the middle of the semester, college is really different from high-school. Quizzes, oral recitation, and seat-work here and there, college teachers are so fast compared to the high-school teachers. Adjusting with the pace in college was a real challenge. With the First-year Formation Program was really a big help for me. At first I thought that this subject would be boring but then I was wrong. FFP is indeed a big help for students adjust and help them in their transistion to college

During this time, our class had a film showing about John P. Foppe, a man born without arms yet he still succeeded in his life and overcomed his fears. With this movie, I was moved by a line of what John P. Foppe had said in the movie “making the best of what you have, when you don't have the best of everything” with this line, I said to myself again “if John P. Foppe can do all those things without his arms, how about me? when I have a complete set of arms and yet I wouldn't use the full potential out of it”. God has given us all the things in life that is really essential to us human beings, with this things it really more than enough, so we must do our part to make the best out of it for the greater glory of …show more content…
FFP's thurst to mold students a better person not only just for themselves but also for others and most of all for God. Good morning, my name is Cameron Lopez. I have been presented with a challenge. A god given challenge. I have been presented with the challenge of learning how to adapt to life without an arm. I am honored that god has chosen me, of all people, me to take on the challenge. Throughout this challenge/battle or whatever you want to call it, I have learned how to live my life as an “abnormal” person. I’ve had to learn how to get on through my life. Learning everyday things can be a challenge. I honestly just learned how to tie my shoes. Of all things, that. But god hasn’t just helped me learn things; he has helped me cope with bullies and people who think they are better than everyone else. I’ve learned in my Sunday…

These past couple weeks have been the most nerve-wrecking and exciting weeks of my life. Coming to college is a lot like being thrown into a jungle. All of the resources you need to survive are there, but most of the time you have to find them on your own. Every resource I could possibly need is here for me at the University of Iowa, but I have to go out on my own to find them and utilize them. Throughout my first few weeks of college, I have found there to be three main differences: privacy, work ethic, and time management.…

The onset of starting college always tends to set in on students in various stages of their life, this of course, causes panic when they do not believed that they are prepared for this upcoming experience. While it is important to stress the importance of being college ready, too much can be excessive, and too little can be well, hazardous. College is just like any other school, except it has an abundance of enforced rules, very strict deadlines, and many more objects that contribute fully to what college is supposed to be like. We all experience the moments when no matter how much we feel that we have prepared we still do not believe that we are ready until we get comfortable. This debate of college readiness has been brought to my attention…

If you were to look at different college’s first year experience class description, you find that most of them are different. Some are more descriptive than others and the requirements may be different but overall the purpose of the class is the same. When you take a look at Suny Albany’s fye class description you see that they only meet once a week. They also state the class is to make the students the best that they can be. They focous on experiences that you may come across during your first year of college. Then they give you the tools and strategies that will help you be able to deal with certain situations and experiences. Another important thing that Albany’s fye class does is helps students locate the resources at the campus that is specific to your major and academic needs. Baldwin Wallace University fye class is similar to Albany’s also. The benefits listed on their website are understanding the educational advantages that the university offers to students, how to interact with the community that you are around such as the town and extracurricular activities. The website also states that the class helps in building students skills that help future ventures through their academics. Being in a fye class I agree with some of the descriptions these colleges’ shows. Fye class do that because with out them it would be hard to know different things around the campus. Starting off at college is a whole different experience you go from people helping you, telling when, why and how to do something to not having that at all. So you’re going to need help adjusting to being independent. While preparing for colleges doing applications and visitations there are lots of things that no one really tells you. The only way you’re going to learn these things is at the…

    College Dropouts

What’s the first thing that pops into your head when you think of college? Do you picture library study groups, dry endless lectures, or maybe a group of young adults tossing paper balls into cups filled with beer. Personally, I pictured the latter, and that’s exactly what I got. Sadly, my priorities were not in order, and with only months left in my second semester, I became what I despised most — a college dropout. Of course, being pretty pleased with myself, I did not see this as my fault. After all, I was still much smarter than my peers, and I had made what I thought was a grand effort in succeeding! How could someone like me who had done so well in high school and always pictured herself in college not be successful at it? The answer was clear ‘College just isn’t for everybody’, so I tucked my tail, returned home and never looked back. Three years and countless hours of thought later, I am back in school and realize my excuse was just that, an excuse. I was simply unprepared for all of the newfound challenges I had to face and I believe my story matches so many others, with 25% of freshmen dropping prematurely according to the ACT. The leading cause of collegiate attrition is a false expectation of what college life entails. Most freshmen, not unlike myself, show up for college unprepared socially, emotionally, and academically. To fix this growing problem, college prep resources need to be introduced starting from 9th grade and not 12th like many of us experience. We all show up on day 1 expecting our old high school on steroids, and get something very different in return.…

The realities that besiege Philippine society nowadays greatly affect Filipinos, men, women, young and old. Children are at high risk of suffering the enormous effects of poverty, illiteracy, poor health and insurgency to name a few, effects which could corrupt their hearts and minds, and rob them of their "childhood" and future. At a young age, children do not have the grasp of understanding the realities that surround them; they become victims of circumstance, deprived of the opportunity to "grow", live a normal life that every child deserves, and undergo the holistic process of psychological development.…

I saw the video of John Foppe’s life in our class and the words were like daggers hitting me hardly because I am one of those more-of-a-pessimist guys, who pitied his self easily, who envies a lot, who asks why life is unfair, and who questions why I am not the kind of man I dreamed to be. Even the movie clip left me in a state of asking why he was able to achieve a lot even with his disabilities and here comes me, with complete parts, yet of less achievement if none. I almost viewed that supposed to be inspiring video negatively. In fact I really did, until that night when I started writing this insight on a paper.…

Our ideals as social beings are shaped in the context of our environment. First, we emerge to be the persons that we are through our relationships with our families, friends and neighbors; our associates in school or in the workplace, the people in authority: teachers, superiors and leaders in the different institutions or sectors. Of special influence are the people who have taught us life principles by their nurturing behaviors and good examples. Second, our societal realities determine the extend by which our social development as a people is achieved. The healthy interplay between the responsiveness of our socio-political structures and leaders, on one hand, and the active and responsible citizenship of the people, and other hand, are essential in ensuring a governance that is maka-tao at maka-Diyos and thus, promotive of social development.…

We can hear the buzzing of vehicles, the sound of the ticking clock the noise of the quarrels around our house. We can hear it almost every day. Everyone is busier than ever; there is no time for chitchatting, no time for recreation, no time for rest, but most of all no time for God. We could no longer handle our own self; we become robots in our daily respective modes of living. But what is lacking? People tried hardly to make something better in order for them to attain that success in life, to experience that desire for a change - a change for the better. Many have searched for it, but many have failed. Though some of them had reached their goal, some of them have all the riches they wanted, still something is lacking. Questions have bothered many, "Can we really attain that real success in life?" then if not, "What is really my purpose, who really am I or where do I come from?"…
