Write a paragraph reflecting on how you used active listening techniques to help your interview go smoothly. How did you get your partner to share important information with you? Was this easier or harder than you thought it would be? How would it be different with a client? After thanking Carol for agreeing to do an interview with me, I found it very easy to get her to share her personal history with me. I did use reflection and clarification during the interview but it was more for my sake than to get her to divulge more information. If this had been a client instead, things could have taken many different turns depending on the person’s situation and diagnosis. A client might not be willing to answer questions as freely and openly as a classmate or colleague would. With a client it may be necessary to ask for clarification in order to draw out additional information. Reflecting on the clients comments would also be useful in getting a deeper understanding of their circumstances. Simply restating what they have already said may also be helpful in getting them to share more about themselves. Using these active listening skills throughout the interview may put the client more at ease and therefore generate better results. In some situations it may also be necessary to involve family members and/or significant others in the discussion, particularly if the person is…

For this project I interviewed my two male roommates, Eli Goodman and Chris Roat as well as my sister Katie DeLoach, and my friend from high school Gabby Gurewitz. I chose my two roommates as interview subjects because they couldn’t be more different. Chris is always really flirty with girls and Eli is generally quitter. Eli is white and Jewish, while Chris is Latino and Christian. Also Eli tends to think much more logically while Chris is much more laid back so I thought it would be interesting to see the contrast in their answers. I chose my sister Katie because she used to be extremely self-conscious but has gotten much more confident throughout college so I was interested to see how this would…

In the video FAT city Rick Lavoie runs a workshop to help understand what a learning disabled child go’s through every day inside a classroom. For the purpose of this assignment I sat down with Ms. Taylor. Ms. Taylor is a relatively new teacher. She is in her third year of teaching and she is teaching in Houston, Texas. Ms. Taylor is a fifth grade teacher who loves her students and is eager to learn more from her students as well as the world around her when it comes to education. Her favorite part of teaching is, the ability to create relationships. Being in elementary schools you build more than students relationships. You have the opportunity to get to know the student’s family and background about your student. This allows for a stronger teacher-student relationship when you are able to know about the student and make them feel cared for and loved by their teacher.…
