Family Immigration Narrative
The Family Emigration
I was obsessed with America since I was a young child, I always wanted to go there and see all of its wonders like the Statue of Liberty, and the Golden Gate bridge. I would always dream of going to that wonderful place, until one day my mother came home from work with a huge smile and announced to me news I would never have expected. She said, “that we made it into an immigration lottery to America.” I answered her, “I couldn’t believe it mother, I never expected that.” However, when my mother showed me the whole process I knew that my parents were planning this for months, not days or weeks, but when I saw the plane tickets they were a whole year away which kind of made me furious that my parents scheduled it further than I ever expected.
On August 13th, 2013, my dream became true, we moved to the United States of America. A couple of days later I attended my first day in an American school, Allen Ave Elementary School in San Dimas,

However, I would get better in English which then would help me get closer to my friends and for them to know more about my personality. Another big example is after a couple of years I would buy the school lunch that seemed strange, and unusual for me when I first came. Over time I learned how to combine both of the cultures without avoiding or forgetting either one. My story beings like any other, at the moment I took my first breath on July 30th 1998 in Bilisht, Albania. I was born in a small town in the lower region of Albania where my entire family lived with my grandparents under one household. My parents soon came to the realization that the current living situation was incongruous for a new family, such as ours, to thrive. As the result, my parents chose to apply for the government program granting our family access to move into a completely new society with new laws, regulations, political aspects and that was tens of thousands of miles away. Our family, at that instant, had a struck of luck as my mother’s name was drawn for us to move to the greatest country the United States of America.…

Everyone sees their American Identity differently. For example, people from the 1900’s won’t say the same thing as someone from the 2000’s. There are many reasons why that is. One being that they didn’t have the same things we do today. Plus technology wasn’t as common as it is today so it was all manual labor. Now that there is more technology there is less need for that. As time went on, American identities changed a lot.…

The day started off as any normal day. My mother woke me up and said “we must go.” Her voice sounded very urgent for what I thought was just a trip to the grocery store. My mom laid my outfit on my bed and packed by book bag; that’s when I figured out that I was starting school. I wasn’t entirely oblivious to the fact that I was going to familiarize myself with a completely different environment, but I just thought I had a little more time to prepare. Well, it turns out that I was wrong. You see, I wasn’t your average pre-schooler who was nervous about making friends. I was the immigrant child who had never spoken a word of English.…

Farms are hard work. Even if you just have pigs and chickens. We, as in my family, have three pigs, and three chickens. We used to have 5 pigs, but we killed three of them yesterday to eat, and sell some at the market. We also killed a couple chickens. We need the money. We can barely survive with what we got, and that isn’t much. Mostly because we have six people in our family. Plus, my dad doesn’t work much, and my mother and I don’t work at all. And, my older brother works, but he makes the most money. My dad barely works. He is too lazy, and all he does is bring some leftover meat from the chickens and pigs to the market, because he can’t keep a real, good paying job. He is an alcoholic and when he had a job, he would always arrive drunk, so he always got fired. When I say we don’t have much, I mean it. We are luckier than people without anything, but not as lucky as the people who have a big house and all the food they want. We are lucky if we get one meal a day. And for clothing, I only have 2 pairs of pants, and 3 shirts. One pair of shoes, and they are too small and all torn up.…

“We’re moving to America tomorrow” was what my mother said to me on April 21, 2007. I was playing with my toys when she told me the news and considering we had regularly joked about moving to America for as long as I could remember, I thought she was just messing with me. The next day, I realized that she was serious than ever.…

Although visiting a new place can be frightening, imagine having to move to a completely different country in hopes of starting a better life. This is what many immigrants do with their families without realizing how greatly it will impact them. They are also unaware of how much they will struggle in a new culture that they, for the most part, know nothing about; making it difficult for them to find resources that are willing to help them, especially right now with the current political climate. Countless innocent people are being impacted by the current immigration laws: fortunately, organizations such as Northwest Seasonal Workers and the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program are attempting to make a difference…
