Effects Of Moving To America
When I was 5 I moved to a beautiful country named The United States of America. The effects of me and my family moving to America is, My eyes would get red constantly because of pollution. Whenever I went to the doctor's they told me I would be blind if I stayed here any longer. So the doctors told my parents to take me to America. Another reason why I moved to America was because it was not safe to live there. Every night there used to be robbers outside my neighborhood or any other neighborhood and sometimes they used to kidnap children. My parents thought that it would not be safe to live in Nepal anymore. The last final decision that made us move to America was my dad won the DV lottery. He had been filling the lottery ever since 1998

Indeed, moving to United states was not easy as I expected but it was fun and exciting. I did not know before why my parents wanted me to face new experiences, but now I understand that everything they were doing and still doing for me is an expression for their love to me. I still remember the day when my mom cut my hair, I was sad, I did not know why she wanted to do that, but today I realize that it was an experience of love, she wanted to show me that I was not making right choices when I used to go out without telling her. When I got here to United States, I did not speak english and I felt as my life started over because I could not talk or do anything since the…

Though limited, there are endless outcomes that come with having little information. Such as gathering ideas to become more understanding with the simple statements. Being in a class with just 15 students, managed to make me experience such a worldly feeling. While sitting, clueless and intrigued, listening to multiple of my classmates limited stories about migrating to America; did I later, began to complement the troubles and frustrations of those who migrated only a few years ago. Unfortunately, with only about an hour to spare, was it difficult to understand the specific situations of my classmates. Many of the people who migrate to different countries, encounter many issues when trying to adapt. Even with limited information, the difficultly…

As I was growing up, I never knew what it meant to be “Afghan-American”, frankly I didn’t even know a cohesive blend of the two cultures even existed. I saw the two as mutually exclusive identities, so I proceeded to act as an “American” with my school friends and as “Afghan” with my family. At the time, I thought this was normal and I was not aware of the negative effects it had on my personality and way of life. As my self confidence and identity strengthened, I realized how lucky I was to be Afghan and American. I finally saw the strengths in the two and merged them together. I now stand tall and proudly, expressing my utmost satisfaction with my identity. At UC Irvine, I assisted in the establishment of an Afghan Student Union and I have…

People often say things about how the United States, with its revolutionary political and economic system, must have been around for a long time in order to achieve the world standing it holds today. This isn’t the case though. In fact, when compared to great civilizations like the Roman Empire which lasted almost 12 centuries, many would say that the United States is still in its infancy. Much in the same way, the political and economic systems the U.S. is famous for are seen to be derived from past civilizations as well. But this of course leads us to asking the inevitable questions of where did it all begin, and what caused people to settle here in America of all places. In order to answer this however, we have to look back past explorers and crusades. Past the kings, uprisings, revolts, and trade routes. We must go back in time to the Roman Empire itself, specifically in the year 476 BCE; the time when everything was falling apart in Rome.…

When asked the question “what is an american?”, almost every single person would provide a different answer. This question is very open ended, and there are infinite possibilities for a response. Being an american is not something that can be decided by a few physical criterion, it is something more. To be an american is, according to Patricia Fernandez, “a state of mind,” based on a person’s beliefs rather than their tangible features. Therefore, I believe that an American is someone who considers America to be their home, believes in freedom and equality for all people regardless of race, social status, gender, or ethnicity, and is loyal and supportive to the United States.…

To be American it means much more than just Sunday Night Football and relishing fast food. It means that one has certain rights, rights one cannot be deprived of. Being American means one has the right to life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness. One has the right to practice their religion no matter what it is. This allows Americans to live a life without being forced to conform to a single religion. That is part of the reason that each American has a diverse background. Another privilege that Americans have is the right to an education. People in other countries are not given an education causing them to be illiterate. This right allows one to prosper in life when one becomes older. Liberty is the state or condition of people who are able…

I want to talk about how I came across obstacles in my life in America. I was only eleven years old when I came to United States. I started going to school few months before 5th grade end. Then when I was in 6th Grade, I was the only Burmese person in school. I was bullied and insulted in school for who I am and where I came from. Before I came to United States, I thought everybody would be friendly to me and help me in anyway that they can, because I’ve been hearing all the great things about United States. When I got here, it was totally opposite of what I thought it would be. I had no fun going to school. All I thought about was to go back to my country, but something inside of me kept telling me that I have to work hard to make my parents…

Gazing out of the airplane window, I saw the words Mei Guo— “beautiful country” in Chinese—painted on the airport terminal. My mother and I immigrated to America when I was a small child from Taishan, China. She aimed to remove me from a life where society would limit my options and ostracize me due to my father’s blindness from Retinitis Pigmentosa and the family’s lack of proper education. My father was willing to let go of his only child because he, too, knew it would open infinite opportunities for me to succeed. Though my new life in America seemed prosperous at first, I soon realized I needed to create opportunities for myself despite our lack of resources.…

In Northern and Central America, there are thousands upon thousands of people who travel to the United states to try and solve their family’s financial crisis. A truly surprising idea; if people decide to work so hard for their families away from them, why not try to fix their problems where they are? The reason for this being brought up, is traveling to somewhere ‘better’ such as the United states will not always bring a much better fortune. The danger that ensues with traveling up to the US is far too dangerous, with gangs willing to rob, beat, or rape anyone that passes and police that show no mercy in brutality. Along with the dangers of just traveling up there, people in the United States can stand rather racist towards anyone they do not like.…

Living in America really shows the true meaning of freedom. America is one of the only countries known to give its citizens freedom to do what they want. The Amendments of the Constitution play a major role in what keeps America and its citizens free; without them our society would get nowhere, the amendments act as a guide to keep the citizens safe and fairly treated. They set up all our laws and let every citizen know and understand their rights as a human being. All it takes is one mistake or for you to mess up once and you can get all your freedom and rights taken away from you. Getting in trouble with the law can change everything in the blink of an eye. Once you get put in jail or prison you are then known as property. The government now owns you until you have served your time; the jail or prison can do what ever they want with you without anyone having a say in it, you are no longer considered a citizen. The amount of time you have to serve will depend on how bad the crime you did was. If it was bad enough you may get put in prison for life.…
