If My Life is Set Out To Be a Fairy Tale, Where’s The Happy Ending? The three symbols that help set the thoughts and help explain the main character are basketball, art, and an air mattress. Basketball is how Lucy the main character bonds with her dad. Art helps Lucy connect and remember her mom because her mom passed when she was young. The air mattress is a symbol of her not having any furniture in her bedroom. Lucy moves in and is living there for months and still has no furniture in her room, creating tension between her stepmom, Mara, and her. With these three symbols the book (If I Have a Wicked Stepmother, Where’s My Prince?) Lucy goes through a lot of different changes throughout her life. Basketball
