Factors Determining Leisure
According to Benjamin Franklin, ‘’ Leisure is the time for doing something useful; this leisure the diligent man will obtain, the lazy man never. ‘’ Scientists prove by given statistics that in America, people who do an activity, leisure and sports, everyday is 96.2%, and they spend an average of 5.18 hours per day. Leisure, or free time, is time spent away from obligations and work. Leisure, nowadays, becomes very actual and trendy, with gender equalities and with the modern world of today, it becomes more accessible to everyone.
People having much more free time are the one being more devoted to do leisure activities. The fact that they will be bored doing nothing, they, themselves, tend to look for occupations.
Leisure also depends on people’s personal interests and preferences. People are more alike to do something they want to do and that they like too. Otherwise, what would be the use of doing something we do not want to do? This will be more like an obligation rather than considered as leisure.
Moreover, if it happened that someone practice the activity that he or her likes, that person will be motivated to do so and will keep it up, whereas when doing unconcerned activities, the person won’t be as motivated as she or he should be. Some are more alike to practice an activity where they know they are good at it. Their personal achievement will act like a motivation.
Furthermore, with modernisation of the world, and with the mentality of people changing at any moment, there is peer pressure; especially during adolescence, where this plays a large role in a young’s life. Teenagers have various peer relationships, and they interact with many peer groups, and these kids are in peer pressure because they want to be liked, to fit in, or because they worry that they will be rejected if they do not share the same interests with the group.
