Explain Why Do Animals Have Rights
There is a question that has been around for some time, and with the advancements of technology, media, science, medicine etc, the need to answer this question is becoming increasingly important. That question is: do animals have rights? Here we examine what gives humans their rights and see why animals are entitled to the same rights based on the same claims for human rights. There is no evidence that supports human’s rights and also clearly excluded animals.
In order to answer this question which comes up so frequently, the question its self must be clarified. What do we mean by animals? And what to mean by rights? Human rights are clamed based on morality and high reasoning. Also ne must be able to enforce their own rights. However we do not exclude humans who do not posses these qualities and thus it is not grounds to exclude animals either. Rights that are made on the bases of suffering can also not exclude all animals. If the ability to suffer is what gives you the right to certain things like life, then it is only fair that any other species who can also suffer be protected as well. If we have rights merely based on our similarity to other humans, then all other species with the same similarity should be granted the same right and all humans should have the same rights whether they are relevant or not. This is not the case, and thus also not a case to exclude animals from their rights. Finally if we have to right to unborn generations, then we must also have rights to species and the environment of these unborn generations. These claims collectively show that if one is granting humans rights on these bases they must also in turn be granting animal’s
