An Exotic Animal as a Pet?

In the many years of my young life (only 16), I have encountered many situations with exotic animals. The reasons for these encounters were because people own these exotic creatures. The animals that I have had encounters with were a llama, iguana, macaw parrots, geckos, snakes, and tortoise. These encounters with the animals were all great experiences, and because of these experiences I decided also to be an exotic animal owner. This comes to question, should people be allowed to own exotic animals?

Yes, I think that it is so, people should own exotic animals because from having one myself is a great experience, owning an exotic animal is great, you learn new things about your pet that is not the ordinary for example knowing what types of food the animal eats, what it’s habitat are, and the uniqueness of the appearance of the animal. These are the elements that I have had to learn since becoming the owner of an exotic animal; and above all exotic animals are beautiful creatures. Owning an exotic pet is considered anything that is not a normal domestic pet, example being, cats or dogs. In the United States alone, 36.5 % of owners own a dog and 30.6% own cats, compared to a person owning an exotic pet is 5.9%( avma). Cats and dogs have a higher percentage, because they are considered the “normal” pet to own. These numbers are high, due to the fact of fears and expenses, yet still fear is not the majority of the problem. It is as well the concern of the many accidents that have been attributed to having a exotic pet 75 deaths have been accounted for since 1990-2011 (Live Science). these deaths have occurred because of the animal is hard to become domesticated as well as it diet.(national geographic).

But don't let these facts put you down because they are true and it can happen but, this does not indicate that having an exotic pet is an automatic death, this just means that there needs to be awareness of what type of

I think people should not have exoctic pets like pythons because they can endanger many animals when they kill to many of them. For example they can endanger specific types of deer and other animals like that too. Then they can possibly become enstingth. Many people enjoy the company of a pet, whether it be a cat or a dog; these animals provide a person with companionship and affection. Pet owners become emotionally invested in their pets and treat them as if they are part of the family. Some pet owners will pamper and shower these animals with affection as well as let them have the run of the house. However, a person needs to remember animals do not function as humans or have the capacity to reason. There are people who believe wild or exotic animals can be domesticated as well as become family pets. When taking care of pets such as a lion or primate these animals require more attention and owner responsibility. There are many states within the United States that have laws banning the ownership of wild animals. However, people are still purchasing exotic animals as pets through the black market. Local communities should not allow residents to own wild animals as companions or breed exotic animals for profit because of the domestic environment, health hazards, as well as the additional financial and social responsibilities associated with owning such pets.…

The problem with exotic pet ownership has been escalating over the years, especially in the last ten to fifteen years alone. Many state governments in the last couple years have been trying to pass laws and different measures to deal with this issues such as an Ohio lawmaker that is proposing a new law that would ban people from owning most exotic animals starting in 2014 (Weekly Reader News Addition) and in Tennessee where lawmakers pitch new exotic ownership rules which would ban the private ownership, import, sale and transfer of most wildlife--regardless of whether or not they are indigenous to the state (DVM Magazine). A few big problems with owning exotic pets is they are often really dangerous and many people cannot provide…
