The sunny city of trees is my preferred habitat, a habitat is where you grow and thrive. Sacramento, California is the wonderful place I call home; from nature to city, this town fills my heart with joy. From morning jogs, afternoon’s at the river, evenings at Cobblestone, to late nights in the heart of the city. I rise early, before the sun, and set out on my morning jog, the brisk morning air sends chills down my spine. I breathe deeply, my eyes fixated on the historic homes perched in the Fabulous Forties. Every Tree, every brick, every crack in the side walk forever engraved in my memory. My heart pounds as I approach McKinley Park, I take the long way around, saving the best part for last. There are more than a thousand rose plants, here in the rose garden of McKinley, filling the air with their sweet and beautiful scent; I stop only to take in their beauty before heading home. As morning cascades into afternoon, the sun sets high in the sky, filling the valley with warm summer air. The day is perfect for spending at the American River. I grab a towel and my suit and decide which part of the river I will enjoy today. I choose a spot near Watt Avenue and make my way to it. Relaxation floods my body as I soak up the rays of the sun; I listen to the gentle splash of the flowing water, the City’s lullaby singing me to sleep. I wake before the afternoon is gone and decide to see what’s going on at my favorite early evening hangout. Cobblestone Café, one of our local hookah lounges, is my home away from home. As I walk in I see the owner or “Uncle” as we call him, chatting up with the man we call “Grandpa.” Grandpa doesn’t smoke his hookah out of an ordinary ceramic bowl, but instead chooses to hollow out an orange, adding the fresh peels to his already flavored tobacco. After I make a cup of coffee, I join them and they translate the news to me that’s spoken in their native tongue from the small screen that hangs above the main part of the lounge. Good
