Chicago Descriptive Writing
The Windy City This past summer, I went on a trip to what I now call one of my favorite places. The spirit of Chicago embodied me. I had always wanted to visit Chicago. I had seen many photos of the beautiful Windy City, and my friends often spoke of their visit to the city. Once I arrived, I did not want to return home. I was ready to leave my old life behind and start over. Going to Chicago opened my eyes, and taught me that I am meant to live in the city. Walking downtown made me feel like an ant, and the large neutral colored buildings were like humans. It was as though the buildings acted as a gate to the city. Men chanting “Hot dogs here! Get ya hot dogs here!” as they pushed hot dog carts, gave Chicago’s sidewalks life. Men and women

Even late at night, the city couldn't have seemed more alive. Navy Pier’s ferris wheels radiated bright red lights that pierced the dark night sky. The skyline glistened off Lake Michigan, which was now a greyish blue. The lights from the towering buildings filled the sky like stars. The red, blue, and neon yellow letters on signs flashed to get people’s attention. People on crimson red carriages rode by on the streets downtown, pulled by a chestnut colored clydesdale. As they rode past, I could hear the “click-click” of the clydesdales hooves. Buses and trolleys were still full of people being transported to different parts of the city. Many people rode green bikes that had “Green City” written in royal blue, and others ran the trails. It felt like day time, all of the time. My trip to Chicago altered my thoughts on small town life. I realized that I wanted to live in a big city. There is always something to do in big cities and the skyline will always be there towering over the city with beauty. It’s a picture perfect view that one would wake up to everyday. Lake Michigan's serene environment and the city nightlife installed views in my mind that I will never forget. One day, I hope to live out my dream of moving to the Windy
