Evolution Persuasive Speech
The other day, you brought up the new anglerfish species. I’m pleased you’ve taken an interest, but I don’t think you understand some of the concepts you brought up. So I want to help you understand how evolution works, and better understand how creatures like the Lasiognathus dinema evolved.
I first want to address Charles Darwin’s concept on evolution. You stated that only the strongest and most important species survive. While strength is an important variable in survival, an organism’s fitness is not related to always related to strength but also has to do with finding a mate, finding and/or hunting food, and surviving sudden environmental changes. For example, the American Robin’s chance at mating revolves around their plumage (feathers).

Charles Darwin's theory of evolution by natural selection suggest that the physical environment exerts selective pressure upon adaptive characteristics, which are traits that increase the survival potential of an individual because they enable them to better adapt to their ecological niche. The adaptive traits are genetically transmitted (inherited) because the individual survives to reproduce and this is known as 'survival of the fittest', where fitness is measured by the number of genes present in the next generation.…

In the novel “The Giver”, the author shows of a world with all people equal. Everyone had brown eyes, brown hair, and light skin. This story takes place far in the future, when the leaders of the world choose that equality and safety will force the world into utopia. However, this world is no utopia. Genetic scientists create people to have no feelings and to look all the same. Imagine a life with no feelings, everyone looking the same, going through the same exact routine everyday, not even being able to see color! This is just one of the scary realities that can occur if the USA allows “Designer Babies” to be processed. With two main points I will prove to you that legalizing “Designer Babies” is the beginning of our end.…

The death of a gorilla makes the world weep yet the many innocent deaths happening everyday have no impact on us. Why? Why does a father beg for his child to live? Why does a mother carry her child door to door asking for help? Why does a husband watch his wife die in his arms? WHY DOES A CHILD HAVE TO WATCH HIS PARENTS DIE? I'll tell you! The dying of a goriilla was hyped about all over media which lead to money making for the zoo. The death of an innocent isn't worth a penny! Initially we see everyone talking about them but 2 days later no one remembers anything. there's no business for news channels if they continuously tell us about death of the innocents. We as humans want new stories everyday, we want the latest not the same old story…

Darwin realized that many of the characteristics that he had observed in animals, cannot be explained by evolutionary adaptation to external conditions. For example, the luxurious plumage of males of some birds (eg peacock) is clearly non-adaptive, makes owners more vulnerable to predators and requires consumption of more nutrients to maintain the shape and color. Darwin realized that evolution - it is rather a problem of differences in breeding than the differences in survival.…

Chapter ten focused primarily on evolution and natural selection. Evolution are the changes in traits, phenotypes, of groups of organisms over time. Darwin was influenced by Lamark and Malthus, who were other scientists during his time. Lamar believed that acquired characters are passed on to offspring. For example, giraffe necks would change for “adaptation”. Giraffes would be born with longer necks. Malthus believed that populations try to go beyond support capacity. He believed they go through competition and struggle for survival amongst each other. At the Galapagos Islands, Charles Darwin believed that species were similar to, but not the same as, species on the mainland of South America. He found that species varied from island to…

When a tree falls in the forest, does it make a sound? Ladies and gentlemen, and the class of 2016, I can definitely assure you that it does. But what is the purpose of worrying about what a silly tree sounds like when it meets its demise? The noise it makes is irrelevant to the bigger picture, the falling of one great tree provides room for multiple new saplings to grow in its place. As time goes on, this cycle continues and eventually the forest is full of what was once a bunch of young, flexible saplings, however, those old, beautiful trees live on as a memory, whether they become a new house, a chair, or even a set of benches that fill a courtyard.…

PTSD or Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is a psychiatric disorder that can occur following the experience or witnessing of life-threatening events such as the military combat, natural disasters, terrorism incidents, or any major tragedy. This is common in the life of veterans and is the leading cause of suicide among veterans. A VA patient who survived in Baghdad shares his experience with PTSD and explains how he knew he had this disability. Many veterans speak out about this issue and describe their continuous anger, alcohol addiction, and constantly wanted to fight. They usually feel very isolated and distant from their loved ones. One patient states, “PTSD involves rocketing into extreme states of stress re-activity; in the form of terror, rage, and uncontrollable impulses, and plunging into equally extreme states of being shut-down—exhaustion, emotional numbing, despair, and dissociation”. PTSD is about having fear and anxiety, allowing veterans to rage with anger and different emotion. There are many factors to PTSD, which affects others in different ways; or example, using video games to keep them occupied, spending money due to the lack of impulse control because of changes in their brain, and even not obtaining another job.…

Is the future of America, specifically young adults, in jeopardy due to the spiraling costs of higher education and associated student loans? All signs point to a crisis in financial aid due to a drop in the availability of jobs, without jobs student loans cannot be paid off in a reasonable time frame or not at all. Therefore, public state universities must be tuition free for in-state residents in order to benefit both the student and the state ,improve the global economy, and most importantly eliminate the enormous debt incurred by young adults attending universities.…
