Evaluating Professional Nursing Values
I believe that professional nursing values are extremely important. Nurses need to be well rounded individuals and reading through the values in our Professional Nursing book on page 259 describes a professional, well rounded, nurse very well. As a current nursing student, I do feel that I have many of these values such as being caring, having compassion, being flexible, and honest, just to name a few. As I grow as a nursing student and professional nurse, I plan to gain more of these values and become stronger in areas I am weak. These areas include being knowledgeable, self trust, and sensitivity. I can not wait to grow stronger in the areas I feel weak in just starting out in nursing school.
Nursing school so far has been very enjoyable

The personal values that help contribute to my worldview and philosophy of nursing that is most important, is my religion. I am a Christian and this means that I am to be Christ like in my every day life and work. I am taught to treat others as I would want to be treated and care for them as I would do for myself. I am to help the sick, wounded, poor and widowed. Nursing in its roots are very much the same thing. Helping the ones who are unable to help themself. The underlying rule for nurses is to do no harm. My spiritual vales shape who I am, what I am and what I do. If I do all things as if I were doing them to the glory of God, then I know all things would turn out right. When obeying God and his commands, my spiritual values teach me that all things work to the good of God and according to his purpose.…

Foremost, I believe that nursing is an extension of the mission of Jesus Christ. “Christian faith provides a servant-leadership model for nursing practice based upon the role model of Christ as a servant leader.” (betterbirthday, 2012) Secondly, I am a strong believer in continuing education in nursing. The bible says “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” (2 Timothy 2:15, KJV) Not only should we study the word of God, but we should also study the subjects related to our divine calling. Holistic nursing is another value that resonates with my nursing practice. Holistic nursing focuses on mind, body and spirit. (Black, 2014) For example, a professional nurse who encounters an angry post-surgical patient and states “You seem to be upset, would you like to talk about what is making you angry?” is practicing holistic nursing. Rather than taking the patient’s anger personally, she is providing emotional support to a person who is likely anxious and…
