Designer Babies For the Future Parents care for their children and always want the best for them, this children’s author knows that, “Most of us would do more for our babies than we have ever been willing to do for anyone, even ourselves.” Polly Berrien Berends, a children’s author and editor, expresses the love and willingness that parents have towards their children. The issue of designer babies today is in the hands of the FDA, right now they are deciding if it’s too much of an ethical issue for society to grasp. As a supporter of the idea, genetically modified babies will not only improve newborn children’s health from diseases, but also have the specifications to change certain features of the child. Modifying babies sounds like such a farfetched futuristic idea, when in reality, today is the future. The technology is all here, and if we don’t utilize these advancements now while we have them, we may never get a chance to do so. With the practice of genetically modified babies, life will improve for the future. Genetically Modified Babies will improve human health and prevent many diseases.
With much conducted research and such little testing, the scientific community states that

My thoughts on designer babies is that it is a wonderful thing to research, but now it's crossing the line. It's amazing how we can take DNA and change it to what we like it to become, but this is someone’s life you are changing. Not only this, but this is now a rather large debate going on about this. Whether or not this practice is palatable or not. It's important to research and make amazing discoveries, but putting someone's life on the line shouldn't be something to put under the…

For those parents who carry known diseases, genetic modification is a dream come true. No longer do they need to worry whether it would be ethical to conceive a child that may be sentenced to a lifetime of suffering, humiliation, or possibly premature death. They can choose to eliminate those genes and/or embryos that carry the disease. As a parent, I can truly sympathize with this incredibly heart wrenching decision.…

While some say that this is a big step up, many think that with a society advancing so quickly it’s not really that big of a deal. “It’s the ultimate shopping experience: designing your baby,” says biotechnology critic Jeremy Rifkin. “In a society used to cosmetic surgery and psychopharmacology, this is not a big step up.” Designer Babies are basically a lifestyle, like getting breasts implants or fixing your nose. Most cases are not because of a medical purpose like trying to avoid a deadly disease called X-linked hydrocephalus, which causes water on the brain and almost always affects males. Designer Babies are merely children who are designed with the desired characteristics that their parents decide for them. And, not only is this like a shopping experience but it’s also increasing in demand (Lemonick,…

A designer baby is the word used to describe the act of genetically modifying the genes of babies. They can also screen embryos for any disorders and could even been uses for modification of characteristics such as gender eye colour and even intelligence. Advanced technologies have allowed doctors to be able to screen embryos for any genetic disorders to enable them to select healthy embryos. It is now also possible to use these advanced technologies to select the gender of a child. Through In vitro fertilization people believe that we will be able to use the genetic technologies to modify these embryos to choose the wanted characteristics of a child. The term designer babies come from how journalists describe this possible situation but this is not a term used by scientist although in 2004 the term was put into the Oxford English dictionary.…
