Ethan Frome essay Every avid reader expects nothing but disappointment when a favorite literature selection is turned into a cinematic experience. Ethan Frome, the movie and novel, is a story about a trio of miserable people living in a dark and depressing town. The motion picture apprehends the fundamentals of the book and other details very well. Although some minor details differ between the two, the book and movie are wildly similar. The same theme of a black and white, arctic small town is there. The same theme of no character receiving a happy ending still comes to light. Themes of lust, love and what is right is still rear their ugly heads. A few minor details in the movie appear that do not occur in the book. Ethan buys Mattie a beautiful
