What information about diversity in the United States has helped you better understand or relate to others in ways that you may not have in the past? Have you learned something new about your own racial, ethnic, or cultural history?
The diversity in the United States has helped me to better understand and relate to others in ways that I may not have in the past. I have learned much from this class and about myself that there is still discrimination and prejudice in the United States. I have learned that I need to take the time and to get to know a person before I make any judgments against them. There are so many different kinds of people in the United States with the different backgrounds. We do not need to discriminate against anyone until we can look at ourselves first to make sure we are clean. We need to look beyond the core of their skin and what they are wearing, and the way they talk. Since this class I have stepped back and looked around to see how people act with each other some get along just fine then you have the few that you can tell are uncomfortable. I have learned that everyone needs to be treated as equals it does not matter what your age, race, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or disability. We just need to all get along and to educate others.

Trends in immigration will continue to shape the demographics of the United States. What will the U.S. population look like in the year 2050? Why do you think so?
I think we will continue to be overrun by illegal aliens from south of the border and it will continue to create economic and population issues as long as we continue to pander to these criminals by offering them health insurance and even social security. It has created a vacuum of employment as it now goes to the lowest bidder, in this case an illegal from Mexico.
Yea, it’s awesome he wants to flee from his country to find a “better” life laying brick for $2 an hour, but it is still a criminal act to enter this country without going through the proper channels and by turning a blind eye for the purpose of cheaper labor we are further dooming our economy.
Furthermore, I find it insulting that Spanish is now mandatory for many jobs here in the US. If I were to move to Italy I would not expect them to pander to me, no, I take the time to learn the language of the culture I have decided to live in.
On top of this, there is the abuse of the hospital system for these illegals who abuse the system and treat it like their primary care provider, which only succeeds in further destroying our already abysmal health care system.
There is a reason why the US immigration practices and healthcare system is mocked and laughed at worldwide, and illegal immigrants are one of the leading factors.
It’s the reason why I plan to leave Arizona in the next 2 years and look for some relief further north.

What challenges does the United States face due to the diversity of its people?
Finding ways to make all cultures happy.
Every other day there is a story about a lawsuit regarding this hate crime or some religious group being persecuted due to the huge amount of diversity in the US.
I think there should be more programs where diversity is introduced, because it seems right now that every race or culture has it’s own little area, be it Chinatown or the Armenian district in Los Angeles.
Groups always seem to be set on segregating themselves and not open to any sort of diversity.

When it comes to the topic of diversity and what is has taught me I really think of a few things. Diversity has really taught me a lot about myself as well as tolerance to others around me. Really there is nowhere in the world today that diversity is not present or has not had some sort of effect on our society as a whole. All in all I think that diversity really just means being different than others in various ways. I think if the United States never had any instances of diversity we would be a pretty boring and simple society. Many of our great minds of today as well as the past where very unique and diverse individuals. Without any type of diversity we would be exactly alike there would be nothing different about each other. The world would be plain and boring as well. I like to think that without any type of diversity the world would be without any type of color or texture as if we were in a 50’s TV show.…

Diversity is an important part of American culture. Cultural diversity has helped to shape the way we live everyday as well as the different foods we eat. What really thought me about diversity is that it is not limited just too racial or ethnic groups but other minority groups. The new information I have learned about diversity still has not changed my views. I think it is important to learn about others cultures and backgrounds. Without knowledge about other cultural groups we would only have stereotypes to go off of. Stereotypes without proper knowledge can lead to discrimination or prejudices.…

I don’t think that many realize the benefits of being so diverse. Personally I love looking around and seeing the women and children form India with there long dresses and there heads covered. They embrace there culture and I think it is such a beautiful thing. At times I wonder what they think is so unique about our culture, and what it is like to be an American. Back in the year 2000, we had about 282.2 million people in America, and 17 years later we increased up to 321.4 million people (infoplease.com). Part of what makes up that population are African Americans at 42 million, Mexicans 57 million, Chinese 3.79 million, Indians 3.18 million, and our many other races (pewresearch.org). Thanks to all of our diversity we can enjoy learning new things from each other such as religion, language, and culture. We can also value many things such as different types of food, art, and heritage (kaplanuniversity.edu). Our diversity provides its own special and irreplaceable contribution to our understanding of America today.…

During this course I have learned about diversity, race, ethnicity, cultural differences, stereotyping and prejudice. Much of the textbook reading has enlightened me on the immense diversity in the United States and in the world at large. The decisions that I partook in during this course have allowed me to interact with many diverse people from various backgrounds which is much like the way the United States and society is in general work. I really never thought about diversity in the way that was taught in this course; people come from many backgrounds and have rich and full cultures who live right here in my own community. Now that I see these cultures in a different light due to this course I can enjoy them more and not feel like they are so different from me and when they are different I can embrace those differences.…

The information that I have learned about diversity in the United States has helped me better understand our society and relate to different people. I think that diversity is a beautiful thing that we should embrace instead of looking at negatively. The United States has come a long way in terms of discrimination and prejudice against different people from different cultures, backgrounds and races. This class has helped me gain a better understanding of what some people went through in order to gain the respect of people that looked down on them because they were of a different descent. Immigrants have the existing ability to enter the U.S with certain risks and restrictions. There are complications about motives and the legality as well as the consequences for these if they are caught. There is a difference between immigration and being an illegal alien. Most people who travel to this country have good reason to continue to stay, whether that reason be for family, work, war or otherwise. The real danger that concerns the border should come from the harmful contraband that is imported and exported from the country. Instead we blame crime rates, and the taking of American jobs on immigrants who are employed in businesses that impact our economy; who live in small cities, and work for small wages. With an increase in population there is bound to be slightly more chaos than typical but that is not a direct…
