April 6, 1956, the greatest man I ever knew was born with his twins cord wrapped around his neck cutting off his oxygen. His twin was still born, but somehow, he survived. He was born black as the ace of spades and his entire life was filled with mental and physical disabilities. He was epileptic, had asthma, chronic bronchitis, chronic migraines, chronic joint and muscular pain, and when he died in October of 2008, he also had emphysema from smoking most of his life. He never had beyond an 8th grade education, but he taught me more about myself, the world around me, and the differences between right and wrong and what I should do with my life, then anyone else I know.…

The end of 8th grade, the end of middle school, was a scary time for some, myself included. After the summer, I would be in a new building, with new people, teachers, and subjects. It wasn’t going to be a smooth transition for me, being an introvert for the most of my school career. My grades we in a great position, that wasn't an issue. I had always been able to maintain my grades. A large part of that was that I hadn't had internet for the past several years. The issue, however, was that high school was a place where it was pretty much required to be social and to go out of your comfort zone. This is also why I was hesitant to take up an offer that would eventually benefit me throughout my years in high school.…

From the distance I could hear the faint sounds of dogs barking and someone loudly cussing them out. That was my sign; my sisters and I had exactly thirty minutes each day to be free, to sit on the couch and relax or talk on the phone with friends, which weren't many since we weren't allowed to go anywhere, but those were the thirty minutes we valued the most. And once the dogs barked the freedom would end.…

A huge influence on my life has always been music in general, but some artist have has colossal impacts on my life and one of my biggest role models has been Dan “Soupy” Campbell. Dan Campbell is the lead singer of The Wonder Years and his songs and lyrics are about finding out who you want to be while growing up, finding a place of belonging and keeping a positive attitude even when things seem substandard. His songs seem to continuously help me out from day to day. Everyone tries to find somewhere where they’ll fit in, feel like a part of something, and knowing that someone is able to put those types of emotions into lyrics not only helps me out but also the thousand of kids like who listen to them. Music and songs like these like these to me have a way of helping you get through some of the most distressing days and just gives you something to relay on. A lot of his lyrics are about being happy and knowing that even the most unpleasant things come to an end, having such an optimistic look on life like that is something I try to carry on in my life. His positive character and always stay true to yourself attitude is something I admire because not many people keep these attribute growing up let alone when they become famous. Dan Campbell will always have a monumental influence on my life through his music and lyrics and the significant role model he is for me.…

I am sure that I can attribute some of the positive aspects of my life to my older sister Mireya. I was living in Mexico at my mother’s house with the whole family except my dad. They got split and my dad came to United States to live. Then were all responsibilities for my oldest sister and my mom. My sister Mireya had a very clear mind of what she wanted in life at a very early age. Being the oldest sister of seven and with an absence of our father, taking the control was not an easy task. I admire her hard work starting from the age of sixteen; she was an Accounting student which is very demanding. She had to work at a full time job while going to school. And she had to look over myself and my younger brothers. I really can see that my sister Mireya was a big influence in my life, and I appreciate her much more now that I am an adult. Inner harmony, spirituality and faith, for my family are the resolution of the “meaning of life”. I remember that every Sunday morning, I would get ready to go with her to church. When it came to determine what is what is important in the big picture, relationships with brothers and my mother, became the most important thing for my older sister. “When you are listening you are day dreaming”, that is what my oldest sister used to tell me. With the absence of my father, my sister had to take his role, and spent much of the time scolding and disciplining us; because of this we resented her. Discipline was her main task as the oldest sister. I remember that she left us a list of chores to take care of on Saturday morning, and then after she came back from work, she wanted everything done that she had asked us to do. She was very stricter with all of us punishing and hitting us with a belt. But I am going to remember all of her teaching and good example with all my love, because I know that she did it with all her…

My grandfather has a very special place in my life. He is the greatest person I know, and I really admire and respect him as a person. Grandfather was tall, thin with lots of white hair. He was in his 60’s when I passed away. Although I spent little time with him, I have lots of memory of him. My grandfather lived in a small village called Ibi, in Imo state, Nigeria. I was living with him at the age of four, because my parents were in Rome, Italy. I spent about six years with him before I joined my parents. He was a great man and everyone knows him because he was a man of integrity, and he always stand on his words. My grandfather worked as an electrical engineer. All I can remember is that, he always wears green t-shirt, black trouser, and a thick glove to work. He told me that the glove was to prevent electrical shocks. My grandfather inspired me to be an engineer. He told me that I will make good money if I become an engineer. As little child, I told him that it was not going to be possible, because I thought it was male job. He made me to understand that there are many types of career in engineer. Another thing my grandfather inspired me to do was be a good person. He though me how to respect elders and talk to people in a good manner. Although life was hard, he gives me money to buy things that I need, from the little money he makes from his job. He was paying my school feel and making sure that I did not lack anything. My staying in Nigerian turned from good moment to bad, when he was admitted to hospital. There was no decent hospital, but the doctor who visited him after two weeks of illness, said he was going to die because his liver was damaged from poison. I cried out, called him several time but my beloved grandfather could not hear me again. After three days I spent in the hospital, no one came to visit or bring us something to eat. I looked around me, I saw him struggling to live. Everywhere smelled some wired scent .finally when he opened his eyes; I…
