Teresa of Avila lived a religious life that tried to bring the original ideas of the church back to life during the corruption of the church in the sixteenth century. Teresa born in Avila, Spain, on March 1515 encountered many illness when she was young. She had what some would say a miracle happen to her when she almost encountered death when she was ill. Her body stop responding to medical treatment. She woke up from a four day coma but it left her legs paralyzed. Three years later she was able to walk again and had many experiences visions with God. She gained many followers with her experiences that made her the leader at her Catholic Church.

She then became ill again and suffered that made her weak and depressed. While she was ill she began practicing of private prayer. She started to give up with all the bad things that had happened to her and wanted to discontinue it but two confessors advised her to write down her spiritual experiences through private prayer. Teresa of Avila writings influenced people, “especially focus on giving people spiritual strength and learning how to experience the discussion of prayer” .
