Essay On Nutcracker Dance
In order to embrace a classic holiday tradition, dancers from Denise Gucwa’s School of Dance performed “The Nutcracker” on Sunday December 6. Dancers have been preparing for the show since August. Dance teacher Nora Flemington found comfort in getting an early start on choreography. “We want to make sure our dancers are as prepared as they can be,” said Flemington. “I prefer to get rehearsals started before the studio opens in mid-September.” The dancers were eager to get to work on one of their favorite traditions. Dancer Isabella Joyce has been performing in The Nutcracker for the past five years. “I always love to start rehearsing, because it gets me in the Christmas spirit so early in the year,” said Joyce. According to Flemington, her goal was to add “more scenery and props” to the show. This also included a growing Christmas tree and a cheese cannon. “I have been wanting to do this in past productions, but I found that the locations we were at didn’t suit the idea,” said Flemington. This was the first year that the production used the Souderton High School stage. Studio owner Denise Gucwa enjoyed the transfer. “The stage at Souderton was a huge step up from what we had been performing on in the past,” said Gucwa. “It was much more sophisticated than what we were used to which was a good thing.” The studio also had the opportunity of producing two shows instead of only one. Dancers in the production felt more at ease knowing they had a bigger stage. “We are tall girls with long legs and we always end being way to close to each other when we rehearse in the studio,” said Joyce. “Being able to have so much room on stage is truly a blessing.” Dancer Jessica Mavrick had similar, but slightly different views. “It can be a blessing and a curse,” said Mavrick. “Yes we had more room, but it also meant doing twice the amount of work such as six leaps instead of

Producing Artistic Director Joseph M. Paprzycki states, "When I saw "CVR" in New York in 2003 it frightened me very deeply. Since then that unique production has never left me and I always knew I wanted to bring its power and intensity to SCTC. What I can say is that you have never seen live theatre like this as it is both, terrifying, true to life and hopefully, like me, it will stay with you for a long time."…

The focus of the short story “Dancer” by Vickie Sears is the positive progression of the main character, Clarissa, a foster child who gains a sense of her cultural identity as a Native. In the beginning of the story, she is introduced as a child with next to nothing and is portrayed to have psychopathic traits. Towards the end of the story, there are positive changes in her character. The main factor that led to Clarissa’s progression was her developing a strong interest in the powwow that led her to gain a sense of being a part of a family, knowledge about the community, and a better understanding of her history and culture.…

On November 28th, 2015 I attended Ben Stevenson’s version of The Nutcracker which was being performed by the Houston Ballet at the Wortham Theater Center. The dance featured two separate acts and multitude of dances as well as a live orchestra. The Nutcracker demonstrated the Stevenson’s ability to deliver a cohesive performance whilst maintaining the illusion of fantasy using music composed by Pyotr Tchaikovsky of the Romantic era, eloquent set design and usage of techniques such as lighting and special effects, as well as precise choreography and overall cohesiveness of the dance and the music.…

Not terribly long ago, our family approached Miss Leslie with a simple thought. We hoped to share our love of dance with another family. Dance has been a part of our family for a few generations, through a little girl’s dreams to a college degree, to who knows where with our current LAD dancer. Miss Leslie chose for us a family that she knows loves dance – the hard work, as well as the performing, the sore muscles and the pride of meeting a challenge. We would love to five you a year of one dance class, including recital costume. We hope your daughter enjoys the 2016-2017 dance…

The last performance especially stuck out to me. The Troth Yeddha’ concluded the program for the evening. The Troth Yeddha’ is an Athabaskan group from the Fairbanks area. Troth Yeddha’ is an Athabaskan word used to describe the hill on which the UAF campus was built on. Their final piece “Friendship” was very suiting for the atmosphere and conclusion of the night. The piece was very different than I expected. The performers were varied from children up to grandparents participating in the partner like dance. Not only was there all ages represented, there were all levels of performers. There were clearly…
