Essay On My Writing Style
According to Jessica Brody “Don’t be afraid to write crap because crap makes a great fertilizer”. Basically, that’s explaining what kind of writer I am, although my writing styles are very crappy, it will allow me to grow into a better writer. I feel that I am at a low standard at writing I don’t do very well. I am not confident with my writing skills at all it’s something I love and loathe, I see myself growing, I do have a lot to work on, I have high expectations for this seminar and, better writing will help me in the future. Writing for me can be something I love and hate depending on the circumstances. Also depending on the topic of the subject that I have to write about. I love writing about something I actually interested in. I have a very in between a love/ hate …show more content…
I envision growing much more in this semester than in my senior English class at Georgetown High School. Growing stronger in confidence, length in essays, points, ideas, grammar, and much more. I see my self growing in a lot of knowledge about writing and different ways how to cite things in MLA and APA style and much more. This semester I also envision learning how to write different essays as in a rhetorical, persuasive, narrative, and much more. I feel that it’s going to be a tremendous growth from what I know now. When writing an essay I usually do very bad, on my grammar mostly. Im not good with where my commas, semicolons, some quotation marks go. I need to work on my citations, thesis statements, and how to tie everything in to make a good conclusion. Other problems for me to work on are my transitional words, and how to stop using words repeatedly, word choice. Usage of the wrong verbs, pronouns, nouns and more. In high school we had to write papers that wasn’t really hard and they actually babied us . Therefore most students from high school going in to college like me are not ready for college level

When I started this class, I believe I had strong writing skills, and now I believe these skills have strengthened, making me a more conscious writer. Before this class, I have not focused on aspects such as sentence length and specific words that I am using. Instead, I simply wrote and worked on proper grammar. My essay writing skills have definitely improved throughout this class simply due to the fact that I spend more time writing my essays. Now that I have mastered more skills, I can utilize them in every essay from here on out. While I know that I still have room to improve, I am pleased by my progress and I feel more confident about my writing. I have always enjoyed writing essays, but this class has helped me more fully understand the complexities of writing an essay. Previously, most essays I have written have been standard for English classes, and…

Our first essay of Freshman Composition was to write a narrative about something that impacted our lives. I didn’t really know what to expect from this assignment. I knew I could write about my car wreck and give precise details about every little moment. When I started writing, I created a mind map to organize all the details. However, I was worried about my writing skills. I didn’t know what my instructor was expecting from me in this paper. I have never been a strong writer and that really concerned me when it came time to receive a grade. When I turned in the assignment I knew I had a strong detailed and easy to imagine story. However, I knew I was weak with my word choices and grammar. Grammar is the biggest thing that drags me down when I write papers for important classes even though I know my information. Because I knew that before going to write this paper, I looked for resources to help me. I found a website that points out your grammar and spelling mistakes for free. I know you can’t rely on the internet so I would read over it on different days to see if I found something new to correct. This helped in the end because I got a good grade on the paper and did well on grammar.…

My writing has changed a lot in my first-semester essay writing class. I finally took a class that teaches me useful information and how to properly write an essay. Essay Writing overall was a fun experience it was a slow start for me in the beginning but once I was able to get the work done I was fine. There were a lot of positives to taking this class. I started the year struggling to come up with ideas to write about nut now I can brainstorm and put my words down on the paper better than ever. “If I could travel anyplace in the world for free, I would want to go to North Korea. I would love to see what it's like.” I struggled with proper punctuation and the use of commas and such throughout my high school career and I still struggle with it I hope to learn more about it in the near future. “Cars are one of the best inventions ever.” I needed some direction on making my sentences longer with getting to the point at the same time. There's a lot of small things I need to still improve on but I feel like I got a good start with the Essay Writing course. I got a lot of useful feedback from Mrs.Pennings on all my essays like when to use certain words and proper punctuation and some compliments the really…

It seems that my hatred for writing has always existed and only grew stronger throughout my education. Even as a young child, I never enjoyed writing. Numerous elementary school teachers drilled the basic format of a five-paragraph essay into my brain. I learned how to write narrative stories, persuasive pieces, and expository essays. I never enjoyed retelling an event in my life or trying to convince readers to agree with my opinion on a topic. Even researching an animal or person seemed dull and pointless to me. Being a new learner of the writing process, my teachers required a brainstorming map or outline before hand. I never struggled to organize my thoughts and ideas on paper. Opposite to Susan Madera’s experience in “One Voice,” I never struggled to speak english but when it came to writing, it was always a challenge. Developing sentences and choosing words were very difficult for me when writing. Madera was able to gain confidence through writing, while I only gained frustration and discouragement. Through the years, the writing process evolved into an even more confusing and hated process for me.…

The beginning of high school I was a seed in English class. I was not particularly good at English and had doubts on whether I should ask the teacher to move me down to the college prep class. Just like a seed, I was a plain little student sitting in an honors class. Maybe from last year’s English class, I was fully aware my writing was not anything special. That was what I thought because I compared myself to my friends, but for sure, one thing I was positive was that writing was my strength in English rather than vocabulary and reading comprehension. With a portfolio with all my past essays in front of me on my desk, I flipped through it. I noticed that my essays were not well-organized, and I had trouble with structuring my essays. However, at the same time, I saw that I had a variety of transitions, and clear topic sentences. The topic sentences were not creative because it was in a basic format, but I knew she could work on that the upcoming year. Thanks to the portfolio that my teacher handed out at the start of the school year, I was able to realize that my writing can change and believed that if I put time and effort through the year, my writing may become a flower one day and bloom beautifully. I sat down in that classroom, day after day, learning new ways to improve. Eventually, almost a year of 9th grade passed.…

    Reflecting on My Writing

Before completing my English class, I tried to make my writing seem perfect with one effort. I wasted time and stress over my work. During this past semester, my instructor taught me that rough copies of writing are best. I began outlining and taking smaller steps in my writing process. My mind felt more refreshed, and I was able to think more clearly about how I wanted to present my work. In one of my first papers, “Dreams in Flight,” I even took the time to test different subjects to write about in a memoir. Viewing topics from different perspectives also helped me to become a true writer. While writing my advertisement analysis, “Health Is Where Campbell’s Heart Is,” I had to look through the eyes of a company and a consumer. This tactic taught me to broaden my own perspective before drawing conclusions in my writing. At the same time, I also learned that a good writer must be able to defend his or her opinion. I used to be afraid to voice my opinion through writing. I would worry about what my readers would think. When my instructor assigned an argumentative essay, I knew I would be challenged. I decided to choose a topic I felt strongly about, the New York City soda ban, and found statistics and facts to defend my opinion. I discovered how to control my thoughts through this assignment. I learned that writers have to show feeling to attract readers.…

English has without doubt achieved some kind of global status as many countries adopt the language they consider to be synonymous with economic success and a cosmopolitan culture. However, factors such as the increasing numbers of speakers of other languages, including in English-speaking countries, an increase in bi-lingualism and growing anti-American sentiment in some parts of the world, all indicate that English may not occupy an entirely stable position in the world. This essay explores some of the reasons why English has become so widespread and then argues that global domination of English, despite its current position as a medium of international communication, is unlikely to take place.…
