The inukshuk is on the bill because I think we need to give respect to the First Nations people, because we took over their land without permission or negotiations. The inukshuk is important to the Inuit people since the word “inukshuk” means “to act in the capacity of a human being”. They are used in many ways, such as hunting aids, message centres (such as where food was caught), and navigational guidance.

Maple Tree
The maple tree is another recognizable arboreal emblem of Canada. Our country produces 85% of the world’s supply of maple syrup, which comes from Eastern Canada. It is significant because maple trees have been producing maple syrup for us, and the aboriginal people taught the early European settlers how to harvest the syrup from the trees. They also keep the maple syrup industry alive and show that Canada is a leader in sustainable forests.
Beaver
The beaver is a well-known symbol of Canada because it has historical significance with the Europeans that brought people to live in Canada. The European explorers found out that there were lots of beavers, and the fashion in the late 1600s and early 1700s was fur hats, which were made from beaver pelts. Soon, Canada became known for its beaver pelts and the Europeans started shipping them back to England and France, where they were sold for 20 times the regular price. In the mid 1900s, the beaver was almost extinct because in the peak of the fur trade, 100 000 beaver pelts were shipped to Europe every year.
