Have you ever thought about what you want to do in your future? I have, and I want to become a pediatrician someday. A pediatrician is a children’s doctor who gives annual check-ups and makes sure their patients are healthy. They also treat their patients when they’re sick, and they can prescribe medicine for them to help them get better. I chose this job because I hope to work with children someday, and I also want to do something in the medical field. A pediatrician is a job that includes both of those things. To become a pediatrician, there are skills that you have to learn, specific schooling required and goals one should try to reach to increase their chances of succeeding. Good skills to have are active listening, speaking, and stress tolerance (mymajors.com). According to mymajors.com, “Active listening means giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points other people make, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times”. This is an important quality for doctors in this field to have …show more content…

Why become a physician assistant (PA) over a doctor (MD) or a registered nurse (RN)? Although the duties of a RN resemble those of a PA, PA’s have more responsibilities and the ability to prescribe medication, plus the salary is a lot better. Of course with more responsibilities comes more education, while RN’s only require a 4-year degree, becoming a PA requires the completion of a 2-3-year physician assistant program. I decided to go for PA instead of MD because I do not want to go to school for another 6 years or put myself hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt. As a physician assistant, I get to perform the same duties as a doctor with the exception of surgery; I could assist in surgery only under supervision of a physician. Another reason to choose PA over MD was the flexibility when it comes to specialties. Doctors are required to choose a specialty and…

The main sources of pediatric primary care in the United States are office-based primary care providers and pediatrician offices. Primary care entails offices that usually do not only see pediatric patients, but also adult patients so the focus is not primarily on the pediatric patient. There seems to be a lack of quality preventative care services for children that ultimately can lead to long term consequences on the child's health. Not only are there not enough sources for pediatric primary care, there is also a lack of training of pediatric health care providers in the development surveillance and in emotional and behavioral problems that affect the pediatric population that can lead to inconsistent quality of preventive care for the patient (Dunn,…
