Essay On Band Strength
While I have only been in high school band for one year, I have tried my best to help. Outside of band I am a student council officer and have been a member for 7 years, so I have learned plenty of leadership skills. Within band I have attended every rehearsal and concert, helped out in sectionals, applied my leadership skills every day in band, and attended the Scott lang leadership seminar. I have also helped my older sister and fellow clarinet players with parts.
Outside of band I i have taken private lessons for three years, been a part of the American legion band, auditioned and made the All-District band for three years, twice in middle school and once in high school, and I am trying out for MYO this year.

I think our band is great, but we can always get better. By improving our organization i mean people show up on time to early rehearsals and sectionals, more involvement, and a better understanding on why it is so important to always try our best and put our effort into everything that we do. I would like to see more people show up on time ot events. Our members have decided to commit to band, and in doing so they should put their best effort into it. For example, I have always heard people in the clarinet section complaining about sectionals and these same people are those who are late or forget. I know that our section does sometimes struggle with have people show up, especially on time. This year we have had a better turnout than years past from what I hear, but it could always be better. Disorganization and noty being dedicated enough is what is keeping our band from our full potential and I would like to do my best to improve that by reminding more people of sectionals ahead of time and always putting reminders out at least a day beforehand. I hope the other sections will do the same and make a contribution to the netting of a great band program. This is imperative as our band is growing, more individual and sectional practice is necessary. It’s important to do some enforcing and still gain respect through the leadership role, which is exactly what i would hope to do if given the

Leadership is a lifestyle, not a role one adopts. Leadership requires strength and power, but also the ability to empathize and recognize others' needs. As a high school student, I have had many opportunities to be a leader, whether it be through clubs, group projects, or extracurricular activities. During my Junior year, I assistant directed the play Steel Magnolias under the eye of my drama teacher as well as a college student director. This role allowed me to learn the ropes of directing as well as take care of the six girls cast in the show. I adapted the role of the "stage mom," making sure every hair was curled to perfection and every prop was in its place, as well as ensuring their lines were memorized and their staging was proper. I…

It took us hard work over the summer with struggles of band members' instrument being out of pitch or off timing etc. Although, it was all worth it until we heard the words from the announcer at the area competition that we can move forward state. I can remember people next me cheering and crying. In fact, this band of ours has not been in this type of event in over 33 years and it is not just significant to me but also to the band and people part of it at that time. What I have learned from this experience that with hard work pays with the time spent on .…

I am a leader. I have all the qualities that make a great leader, but I was not born this way.Experiences and how someone reacts to those experiences are what truly make a leader. One of the most influential experiences I have gone through is called the Lebanon High School Marching Band. I am certain that I wouldn’t be who I am today if it weren’t for marching band. Before coming to high school I already had leadership qualities, but band helped bring all those great qualities together and helped me get past my two major flaws: my lack of self-confidence and the fact that I was probably one of the shyest people you would EVER meet. When I joined marching band, I spent most of my waking hours sweating and suffering alongside wonderful people that I longed to…

A controversial question asked by many musically talented individuals is whether marching band is a sport. If you asked most people they would say no, but of course they don’t see 2-3 hour rehearsals or the kids who cry when they don’t get accepted into their dream colleges because of auditions that just weren’t up to par. They only see kids in “silly” uniforms blowing into or beating on instruments. People don't see a Marching band and think that they work just as if not harder than a football team. I believe Marching band is a sport because it's performed on a collegiate level, and marching bands have yearly, if not quarterly competitions.…

My experience with being a leader in the groups that we did was a great learning experience. I learned a lot not only about myself, but also about what it is like to be the leader of a group. A time I wish I had spoke up as a leader was a couple of months ago when a past concert band member wanted to be apart of marching band. This individual had not attended band camp, which is a requirement if you want to be in marching band. The individual had family issues which prevented him from attending. Once school started he went to the first football with us and played the show music during class. I thought there would be an exception due to his circumstances of not being able to attend. Later I found out that leadership and our band director would decide whether or not he would be included in our show. His drill spot had been written, now it was just if he was committed and be able to. I thought he deserved a chance, so I wanted to help him. I figured our band director would too. But at the same time, our…

It is difficult to narrow down the many instances where I have showed great leadership but many can be found in my involvements in teamwork. I have been looked to as a leader and have taken responsibility for various group projects. I have discovered much about fairness, compromise, and responsible qualities that are required to be a "good" leader. Often, I have had to sacrifice my own free time and personal desires for the benefit of the group. I believe this is the most important part of being a leader, the ability to sacrifice individual time and desires for the overall gain of the people that you are leading.…
