To be successful at anything, you will almost always experience failure. It can be a catalyst to growth and allow you to become better because of it. For me, I experienced this failure in soccer. Playing soccer for the majority of my life, I have learned valuable life lessons while on the soccer field. My talent is something that I take pride in, but getting to the place where I am now, has not always been the easiest journey.
In my life, I have been blessed with many opportunities. The most meaningful of which were opportunities that were challenging and not easy to achieve. At times, they have come from failure, and what I learned from that may be my greatest success. My goal in soccer has always been to play at the highest level. For the most part, I have achieved that goal and want to continue playing in college. But, when I was fifteen, for the first time, I did not play at the highest level. At age sixteen, a select number of clubs offer an academy team. The academy system is considered the highest level of youth soccer and is where many Division I college players are recruited. He told me I didn’t make the team, and we were both crushed. At the end of that phone call, I told my dad that I was going to be on that team, I might not be on it now, but I was going to be on that team. Every time I played after that I though about how I didn’t make it, and how I needed to demonstrate that I had the talent to be on that team. Every day, I worked harder, became faster, and pushed myself to be the best I could be. I remained with the club and developed just like the coach had asked us to do.
