Hesitation is a common trait amongst the human race, even prior the most insignificant decisions in one's life most people will hesitate before they make their choice, and regardless of what is chosen consequences will often follow these choices. In the Novel The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini and William Shakespeare's play Hamlet, the protagonists from each story, though different in many ways, are similar in the sense that they both have a hesitant nature which precedes their decision making. Amir from The Kite Runner, and Prince Hamlet from Hamlet,are the protagonists from their respective stories, these title character adequately manifest the consequences of prolonged hesitation and poor judgment in dire situations . Each character struggles emotionally with the decisions that they must make, their choices ultimately have significant negative impacts on them selves and the people that they care about. These poor decisions in each protagonist’s life allows each character the opportunity to conciliate themselves for the inferior choices that they have made. In both stories we see clear indicative points in which each protagonist shows hesitation that leads to poor decsion making as well as one final act of redemption.
Both Hamlet and Amir attain compromising information about people that are close to them and they both decide to keep this information to themselves. They hesitate before making these decisions and they decide finally that When Hamlet finds out from the ghost of his father that he was murdered by his uncle “The serpent that did sting thy father's life/Now wears his crown.”(Shakespeare, 776-777) Hamlet decides that this information should be kept only to himself.
