Equality 7-2521 Analysis
“IT IS A SIN TO WRITE THIS.” This is the first thing Equality 7-2521 said. Equality 7-2521 says that anything that has to do with being independant and thinking on your own, is a sin. A sin is anything against the Council's rules, and the Council s a bunch of people who are the “government” of this utopian society that Equality 7-2521 lives in. Equality 7-2521 is a very tall boy, and being tall, or anything is a sin, because you are different from your brothers. “”We are six feet tall, and that is a burden…” Equality 7-2521 says this on page 18. This makes him alone from anyone, which in return, makes him think alone. When Equality 7-2521 thinks alone, it makes him think of things that shouldn't be thought of in his society.
In the beginning, Equality 7-2521 believes that everything that someone cannot see, or cannot hear, is a sin. At the end of the book, Equality 7-2521 knows that being tall is not a sin, being smart is not a sin, and that thinking for yourself is not a sin. In the end, Equality 7-2521 changes his name to Prometheus. Prometheus has now decided, that he is an independant man, that he does not have to fear of what his mind might say.

Prometheus has changed his name, showing that he is really independent. He has changed “we” to “I”, and he says that it is not a sin, and I agree with him all the way. He could have been trapped under the Council's rule for his entire life, and he would never had known what freedom felt like, what thinking for yourself felt like. He would had lived a miserable life and then retired to the Home of the Useless, which is where all the old people go when they can no longer

Equality 7-2521 strongly resembles the Greek mythological creature, Prometheus, in many ways. They both are very different from their people. Prometheus was a titan who was nothing like the other titans. He fought to defeat his brothers so that the gods could rule. Likewise, Equality is obviously nothing like the people of his society as he was told earlier in the book. “‘There is evil -in your bones, Equality 7-2521, for your body has grown beyond the bodies of your brothers.’”* Prometheus is especially known for introducing fire to mankind, just as Equality planned to revolutionize the world with his light bulb. But when he introduced it to the Council, they denied it. In fact they were scared of his light. Another obvious similar characteristic the two share is their will to sacrifice anything for their beliefs. Prometheus knew he would be punished for stealing the fire from Zeus, but still refused to keep it away from mankind. “…and he suffered for his deed.”* For his punishment, Zeus chained him to a rock and sent a bird to eat his liver. Every day his liver would grow back, so every day the bird returned for his meal. This punishment was meant for eternity. Equality also knew over his long term research that he would be punished severely if anyone found him, but still did not stop in his…

David is the character I found to be most similar to the Creation. He was a robot created to serve his human creator and was very loyal. When the doctors Shaw and Holloway were trapped in a storm, he was prepared and more than willing to save them. Everything he does is done very intentionally, as if it is his duty. Like the Creation, he feels many conflicting emotions about his existence. He states that he is disappointed that humans only created him “because they could” and said that once his creator was dead that he would be “free”. Interestingly, David was not the only character similar to the Creation in Prometheus. In fact, I believe that the entire human race was portrayed as the Creation. In the movie, the human race was created by the Engineers. The characters in the movie want to discover where they came from, their purpose and what happens after death. They try to find the answers by seeking out their creators, the Engineers. The humans expected the Engineers would be kind to them, similar to how the Creation thought Victor would act as his father, but this was not the case. In a plot twist similar to the novel, the engineers are not proud of their creations and try to destroy them. Doctor Shaw is deeply saddened by this feeling…

Prometheus was an odd character if one considers his story, that of no violence or death. This Titan, ironically, could not stand to see the humans suffer with the fate Zeus and his fellow Titans commanded, so he disobeyed authority and gave mankind fire. As punishment, Zeus killed him over and over and after being unsatisfied, chained him to a large tree to never move, but only able to watch the humans. Zeus was not satisfied, however, so he punished Prometheus’ brother, Epimetheus. This happens in the story of Pandora’s box. Yet, symbols and characteristics that have inspired authors around the world come from Prometheus, which can be called the good heart, or some similar things. Heroes can’t only fight, kill, and claim…

Equality 7-2521 lived in a Dark Age in which every aspect of life was controlled by a ruling council. As a child, Equality 7-2521 wanted more than anything to be a scholar. He believed that he was cursed with curiosity, and was often rebuked by his teachers for being too smart and too tall. He tried to comply to the standards, but no matter how much he tried, he was smarter than his fellow brothers. When the Council of Vocations assigned him to be a street sweeper instead of a scholar, he was disappointed, but knew he could not do anything about it.…

In today’s society, denouncing a leader is more common than it used to be as we see in today's politics and everyday life. By denouncing a leader, society critiques them because they do not think of them as humans with the right policies or beliefs. However, every human on earth thinks differently and sees life from a different viewpoint, making everyone discrete. As a result of criticising a leader, a person is simply stating what they think by censuring their leaders who they do not see eye-to-eye with. Equality 7-2521 reviles the leaders in his community, but not directly to their faces. But is it wrong to reject your commanders in chief, or is it right? Should men and women be able to state why they think their leaders are wrongdoers or…
