As we know, China is a big country that has a lot of resources, and has continuously developed itself. However, the environmental problems that have troubled us many years are big and unavoidable social problems. Some problems are atmospheric pollution, water pollution, waste pollution, land desertification, sand disaster problem, soil erosion and destruction of biological diversity. Our environmental problems are becoming more and more serious. We should realize that there is no time for us to improve our environment. We should try our best to protect our environment. There are three big environmental problems I want to describe. First of these is water pollution which is the most serious problem I think. Many water systems in China have been polluted, Such as the Liaohe River, Huaihe River, Songhua River, and the Yellow River. Forty-two percent of river water is not drinkable. Thirty-six percent of City Rivers all over the country has lost their use of function. Secondly, the air pollution is also serious in China. In 2000, the emissions of sulfur dioxide in China amounted to 19.95 million tons, ranking first in the world. So much smoke pollutes the air, such as cars, factories and families, which is really harmful to our health. The third thing is the problem of soil erosion. There are more than fifty billion tons of soil have lost every year in China. Since 1949, it has destroyed more than four thousand acres of arable lands, which is a big loss for Chinese agriculture. For now, China still has many environmental problems that need to be solved, so we must do our best to protect our environment, because it is the responsibility of every one of us. First, we need to save water and recycle water. The water what is used for washing can be used to flush the toilet. We can make full use of water resources. Second, we must abide by the relevant provisions on prohibiting throwing away all kinds of waste as well as dump the waste into the designed locations or containers, especially not throwing batteries, because wasted batteries contain heavy metals which have very powerful pollutions. Finally, please slow down when driving, making small oil consumption as well as reducing the emissions of carbon dioxide. Regardless of the past, present, or future, the environment is our friend, and we should always treat it as a friend.
