The Red Dragon Imagine being in a country roughly the same size as the United States (U.S.) and having over four times the population. Imagine having a limited water supply due to pollution. Imagine having a wall built across your entire country. Imagine a country that frowns upon religion and only allows you to have one child. All these things are true for the country of China. Over the following paragraphs, I will discuss the world’s largest military and some of the struggles that the Chinese people face on a daily basis. When discussing China’s physical environment, a few things immediately come to mind, a particular man-made structure and the environment. Arguably, the most well known manmade structure in the world is the Great Wall of China. Constant wars and invasions by barbarian nomads during the Qin Dynasty in 200 B.C. sparked the construction of The Great Wall. Once completed, the wall was to run roughly three thousand miles long. Having the highest population in the world has its downsides. In the last two decades, the length of paved roads has tripled. Because of this, more people are moving away from their densely populated areas. With people moving further away from their jobs, more people are driving as opposed to riding bicycles or walking. With motor vehicle traffic growing, along with the large amount of industrial areas, lakes and rivers are now. Nearly two thirds of the population has a shortage on potable water due to pollution and water consumption. Soil has even become part of the pollution problem. Many areas in eastern China are uninhabitable to humans because the polluted soil. The Chinese government’s plan to combat these issues includes more water treatment facilities and advanced treatment
