Senior Project: Student Life Unseen 2014 Conference

!

Student Life is based out of Birmingham, AL that does camps during the summer, a tour during the winter, as well as supporting the local church and other ministries by creating Bible studies, taking up offerings to send students on short term mission trips, as well as many other helpful services. This last summer alone, Student Life was able to share the gospel with over
60,000 students from across the country. SL gave me a call in hopes that I would be interested in traveling with them for half of the spring semester to be in charge with everything the deals with audio. I was in charge for setting up and managing the sound system, microphones, wireless packs, cables, stage power, FOH (Front of House) console, as well as managing the monitor console. Within the seven-city tour, I was given the opportunity to gain road experience, analyze two different styles of leading worship, and see the difference in worship responses according to the church culture of each specific city.
I travelled with a professional grade EVE system. I hung 24 (12 on each side) XLD 281 box line arrays supplementing them with 10 subs and 4 front fill speakers. I learned how to use a
Midas Pro2c console. We used one Pro2 for FOH and one for the monitor engineer. I ran 62 channels total between both bands as well as stereo video inputs, stereo Mp3 input, and an audioreactive output. I was one of two guys that was in charge of loading and unloading the semitruck. We worked with a stage-hand company every weekend which gave me great practice in delegating jobs to other people. Our weekly schedule is listed below:

Thursday: 1:00 -10:00 p.m. Load In
Friday: 3:00-5:00 p.m. Sound Check with Brett Younker
6:30 p.m.- Doors/ 7:00-9:15: 1st Session w/ Brett Younker and David Nassar
9:30-10:00 p.m. Sound Check with Bellarive
Saturday: 8:30 a.m. Doors/ 9:00-10:30- 2nd

From field trips, to tutorials, our class has been extremely interactive with one another. We have gone on a total of 3 field trips. One to Pacific Lutheran University, one to UW Tacoma, and one to Evergreen State College. Each trip has opened my eyes for possible future options. During each trip I learned of the college campus, the history, and the programs within the college. While learning these things, I had to ask insightful and specific questions. This really has…

All relationships have ups and downs, but in order for them to work it is substantial to have a few important qualities. Both partners must possess the qualities for a relationship to be long lasting. Liam from the short story “Bluffing” by Gail Helgason, and Ann from the short story “The Painted Door” by Ross Sinclair lack being trustworthy, selfless, and caring, while their partners, Gabriella and John carry these traits, making it difficult for both relationships to be successful.…

I knew that they collect and spread resources throughout the community. What I did not know was that they provide opportunity for people to complete community service as part of a sentencing. They do not just give them work to do but counsel and advocate for them as well. One of the people that I worked with when I volunteered was convicted for drug abuse. He had to do community service to meet his sentencing requirements. He also had to do drug counseling. The Major at the Salvation Army works with these people to help them get off drugs and become a productive member of society. I also worked with a few young men who were completing high school through an alternative school program. Then there was Major Carol and I working that day. It was nice to see such a diverse group of people working together to benefit the less fortunate in our community. It was our job to sort and organize food for the Christmas Baskets and the food pantry. They have close to 300 families on their list this year from Marinette and Menominee who will be receiving baskets this year. It is amazing that by volunteering 3 hours one Saturday morning; I will have affected the lives of that many people on Christmas this year. The volunteer assignment experience relates to the theme of our course by showing us that there are less fortunate people in our community and it is the responsibility of everyone in the community to…

With this group, I had the opportunity to go to the local Willa Gill Center and package CARE packages for the community. The CARE packages contained basic needs such as toothpaste and shampoo, and special items like nail polish and makeup. After we packaged everything, we were able to sort out clothing and cans that were going to be distributed the next day. Working behind the scenes and helping the workers prepare was very rewarding.…

“Happiness”, it is a fuzzy concept and can have many definitions to people but the most acceptable definition of happiness is to help and save each other’s. Does saving another human’s life makes you happy or not? If yes, then that implies that animal testing is a bliss and it is a thing that we must stand for. Animal testing is an expression that most people have heard however are maybe still unsure of precisely what it implies, it actually means experimentation carried out on animals. Animal testing offers a ton of assistance in saving lives through the experiments to discover illnesses and its cure. One believes that animal testing is helpful, because it is more precise in testing drugs than machines and it also confronts the issue of human trafficking besides it saves numerous lives, and helps humans from extinction.…
