English should be the official language of the United States because it is the original language of the United States. Everyone that lives in or moves to the United States should have to learn English as a primary or secondary language. Also, I am not saying that it should be the only language spoken in the United States, It should be a requirement to speak this language because when coming to this county there are many people who hold certain jobs that are very vital to your base needs who can only speak English because that is the only language they have every known such…

Nowadays, all people say that English is the most essential and easiest language that people could use to communicate in different countries. As I read thoroughly the two articles, which are called “ English seen as a Co-star among Global Language” and “Can English be Dethroned”, I’ve found out that people more commonly accept using English as a second language in the 21st century. We all understand the fact that English has been growing in popularity largely as economic globalization is getting bigger. The benefits of English as a common language for communication and interaction far outweigh any possible disadvantages that it might have. English is a global language not because the world shows respect to it by accepting it as a global language because it has the characteristics of a global language.…
In why a Global Language, author David Crystal explains what a global language is, how English has become the global language of today, and also why it is important for the world to have a global language.…
This paper explains the current arguments surrounding the use of an impending world language. Four different sources are used throughout the paper as a means to better explain the notion of Jean-Paul Nerrière’s brainchild of ‘Globish’ as a front-runner for the use of a world language. These sources differ somewhat of their interpretation of ‘Globish’ and how it is changing the way that English is being spoken. McCrum (2011) and Hitchings (2011) both explore the idea of an impending world language and how ‘Globish’ will invariably change the way that native English speakers will speak English to non-native speakers. The examination of the controversies of ‘Globish’ and the realization of a world language are thoroughly reviewed in two online newspaper articles. Cameron (2010) assesses the history of English and its rise to prominence through globalization. Cohen (2006) establishes a case for the detrimental results that ‘Globish’ will have on the English language, as we know it today. This paper attempts to link the idea between a world language and ‘Globish’ together and what the possibilities of both mean for the future of English.…
Crystal begins English as a Global Language by asking what it means for a language to be global, and what the advantages and disadvantages of having a global language are. In three chapters he then traces the rise of English to that status.…
Do you know that of all the languages in the world, English is the most entertaining and pleasurable language? The amusement of English expounds why we park our car on the driveway and drive our car on the parkway. When we explore in more detail of its paradoxes, we may later discover that quicksand can work slowly, boxing rings are square and guinea pig is neither from Guinea nor it is a pig. If we hurled back, English has been widely dispersed around the world when British Isle began with the growth of the British Empire. In Malaya, English is mandatory for each and every citizen during the colonial of British. Due to the colonization, it left a profound impact in Malaya as English became the second language among Malaysians.…

Language is used for expressing our thoughts , and for verbal thinking, problem-solving, and creative writing, but it is used essentially for communication. What makes it difficult to grasp the language user’s systems of representation for communication with others is the fact that the capability of individuals to interact with others through language is a unique quality and at the same time a universal human quality. The successful language use for communication presupposes the development of communicative competence in the users of that language and that the use of language is constrained by the socio-cultural norms of the society where the language is used. The use of English in Britain is influenced by the British socio-cultural norms which underlie individual differences. So are American English, Indian English, Nigerian English, and Singaporean English. That holds true in areas where English is used daily either as a native language or as a second language. In the use of English for international communication, however, what society’s or societies’ socio-cultural norms should be observed? Should they be the Anglo-American norms because speakers use American or British English as the model? Or would they be the socio-cultural norms of speakers’ native societies, which are not conspicuous nevertheless inevitably ooze out? Or is there what might be called pan- human or universal socio-cultural norm(s) overarching individual societies and cultures?…
English as a lingua franca I am going to tell you something about English as a lingua franca. I will be talking about 3 different subjects concerning English as a lingua franca and a lingua franca in common. First of all I will tell you something about the purpose of a lingua franca, or in other words; What is a lingua franca. Secondly I will give some reasons why a lingua franca should be or might be introduced. Then last but not least I will mention some of the problem which might occur when you’re trying to introduce a lingua franca. What is a lingua franca? A lingua franca is a language which would be used as a second language by all people. Maybe some of you have ever heard about Esperanto. It was created in 1859 by dr. Ludwik Zamenhof. Dr. Zamenhof was born in the former Russian part of Poland. His official profession was doctor. The city where he was born, Bialystok, it was common that the people where speaking Russian, Polish, Latvian, Ukrainian, Lithuanian and German. At the end of the 19th century Dr. Zamenhof wrote a book for which he was using the pseudonym “Dr. Esperanto”. This name was based on his hope for a new language. This language supposed to become a language which would be used and learned by everyone, so everybody would be able to understand each other and therefore the people might appreciate each other a bit more than when they are not able to understand each other. Dr. Zamenhof died in Warsaw in 1917. He never saw his ideal to have one common language become reality just partly. Since this time people became more and more interested in one common language, but so far nobody succeeded. English is one of the most mentioned languages when people are talking about a lingua franca, that’s one of the reasons why I chose English as a lingua franca as the subject of my presentation. Now I will tell you something about the reasons why we should have English as a lingua franca. First of all English is already used a lot all over the world.…
According to Cristal’s view for those who do not speak English will be, in almost every case, empowered by learning English. Furthermore, Crystal postulates that the explosive growth of non-native English speakers has resulted in a world English, which is being shaped and directed just as much by these non-native English speakers as by mother-tongue English speakers. Crystal emphasizes a new world view, based on global interdependence, which “sees English playing a central role…
Thirdly, today we will acknowledge that English is sweeping the planet's physical, economic, cultural and cyber space. It is the language of tourism, of markets and trade, of the Internet. It's the language the young in the developing world, the formerly powerful world. It is becoming a global language unlike any other in the history. Besides that, English is an increasingly classless language. It encompasses more than just…
English is the first language for the people in the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Ireland, and New Zealand. Also, English is the second language for many countries over the world. The English now is the first global language. The question is will English be the first language in future or not. Some people say no, but I think the English will be the first language for long time.…

Of the 4,000 to 5,000 living languages, English is by far the most widely used. As a mother tongue, it ranks second only to Chinese, which is effectively six mutually unintelligible dialects little used outside China. On the other hand the 300 million native speakers of English are to be found in every continent, and an equally widely distributed body of second language speakers, who use English for their day-to-day needs, totals over 250 million. Finally, if we add those areas where decisions affecting life and welfare are made and announced in English, we cover one-sixth of the world’s population.…
