ENDERS GAME

"When you fight an enemy, you can't just win the fight. You have to knock them so far back that they won’t fight anymore. You have to win the battles to come before they happen.” A good quote from the character Ender Wiggin. I read the book Enders Game written by Orson Scott Card. It is a very good book in my opinion, there is many things that can be taken and learned from it. For example I learned that when leading your men you have to know their strengths and weaknesses and what they are good at, just like Marine Corps leadership principle number ten "employ your command in accordance with its capabilities". You can’t send your marines to accomplish something if they have no idea how to do it. Some marines are better at doing one thing than another, and other marines are better at other things. There are many things from this book that can be learned when leading your fellow marines. In chapter eleven "Veni Vidi Vici" meaning; I came, I saw, and I conquered, they decide to make Ender Wiggin start battling one team a day sometimes two or three in a day. He hasn’t even been in command of his team for a month yet and they are pushing him to test his limits and how he handles himself and his team. No matter what they put up against him though he was able to think quickly on his feet, he handled his team very well and was able to defeat everything they threw at him. What I learned from this is that things are not always fair or equal, you have to be ready for the worst. You won’t know if the next battle you fight, will be evenly matched or outnumbered thirty to one. That just means you will have to think smarter and quicker than your enemy and be able to conquer anything that they throw at you. Also in the same chapter Ender Wiggin decided to surprise his teachers, mentors, and competition by instead of making a formation like they have been trained to do, he decided to split his team up into individual platoons and have them carry out different

Ender was able to take the rag-tag army that he was assigned and turn it into the best team that battle school had ever seen. From fighting a battle every day from early on and sometimes multiple teams at once, Ender never failed to quickly adapt to the situation and figure a way out. Similarly, Ender always does the job with one hundred percent effort. Now, this does not always mean the best for his opponent. For example ender clearly makes sure that when he beats an opponent, he completely annihilates them. Ender states that “I destroy them. I make it impossible for them to ever hurt me again. I grind them and grind them until they don't exist." (Card, 238). Even in self defense, Ender went as far as killing Stilson and Bonzo without realizing what he was…

In Ender’s Game, written by Orson Scott Card, the main character, Ender Wiggin eventually becomes the hero of the human race. The story starts with Ender, a third child, living with his sister Valentine and his brother Peter. Ender constantly lives in fear with his brother because he is not only rough on Ender, but borderline abusive. Valentine, on the other hand, is filled with kindness and cares for Ender. One day, a man who belongs to the “ International Fleet” comes to his house and asks to see Ender. Ender was chosen to be part of the I.F not only because he was a third child(which meant he belonged to the I.F. already) but because of how he acted in certain situations. Ender agrees to go with the I.F into battle school.…

Well, this prodigy of a kid called Ender Wiggin did not think he could handle it, he could not even handle fighting with his brother Peter. In the book Enders Game, a science fiction novel, Ender Wiggin is called upon to train in the International Fleet to become a commander and fight against the buggers. In his journey he faces many obstacles in trying to do so. In Ender's Game, euphemism is present while the government does not tell Ender the whole truth about his activities, which affects Ender’s actions drastically, proving euphemism alters people's decisions. When Granger travels to Ender’s house to recruit Ender to help destroy the bugger aliens, he used tons of understatements to persuade Ender to come. Granger tells Ender that he will fight for Valentine, Ender’s sister, who will be saved from the possibility of dying but, Ender is really needed to save humanity. This leads Ender to reluctantly agree to go with Granger. To convince Ender’s parents that the mission is safe, he fabricates the truth by saying, “War games. All the boys are organized into armies. Day, after day, in zero gravity,…

“I've got a pretty good idea what children are, and we're not children. Children can lose sometimes, and nobody cares. Children aren't in armies, they aren't commanders, they don't rule over forty other kids, it's more than anybody can take and not get crazy" (Card, 8.134). This shows the immense pressure put on children to behave more like adults throughout Ender’s Game. Ender’s Game has an action pact plot that focuses on the main character, Ender, maturing into a commander to save the human race. The story starts out with young boy named Ender, who is very intelligent in a school with regular kids, being monitored by the International Fleet so that they can decide whether he will make it into battle school. After many stressful encounters…

The basis of human nature and the way we interact with one another and ourselves throughout our lives is deeply connected with the idea of good and evil in the human speciescut? This reoccurring theme is seen in all religion, mythology, and modern day stories which all have the constant moral compass of straying from evil and relating to the good through actions and emotions. While it is believed by many that people's actions shape their internal identity, is that really the case? Ender's game raises this question with Peter symbolizing evil and portrays ultimate actions of good and Ender symbolizing good while portraying the actions of evil. With the toying of the readers perception of the stereotypical good and evil, Card proves in his writing…

Greatness, being one of the most desired, and the most respected traits by humanity throughout history. For countless generations humanity struggles trying to find change, trying to produce someone who can make that change which has been sought after for so long, someone who is great. While genetics may be what often makes a person a genius, greatness is created with the addition of experience, a very particular type of experience unique to the individual that changes them into the best possible version of themselves. Ender proves his greatness by defeating the vastly superior enemy of earth, and he is able to through his experience with battle school’s unforgiving environment and Graff’s harsh training that is specific to Ender. All in all, Ender’s Game is a moving story about the results from pushing children too far and the importance of learning about other cultures. Ender Wiggin is a remarkable character who projects far more understanding towards others than any eleven year old does, despite the extended pressure put upon him. Hopefully no eleven year old today will ever have to deal with the pressure of leading an army, unless that army is comprised of other eleven year olds campaigning for more…

Imagine if, from the age of six, you grew up in a school where the smartest kids in the world were trained to be ruthless military commanders, and on top of that the school is in outer space. That was the world Ender Wiggin grew up in. I don't know about you but that doesn't sound like a normal childhood to me. Let me explain, the year is roughly 2100, In order to develop an unbreakable defense against an aggressive alien race's next offensive, government agencies make child geniuses and train them as commanders. An ingenious child, Andrew “Ender” Wiggin lives with his sadistic older brother Peter, and the person he loves more than anybody else, his older sister Valentine. Peter and Valentine were also contenders for the battle school program…

Leading Marines is the greatest resource that I have come across so far for guidance and motivation in becoming a leader of Marines. In one neat sentence located in the forward, we are given everything that sums up what is expected of future leaders of Marines: "Our actions as Marines every day must embody the legacy of those who went before us." Marines have a great expectation to live up to, and as commissioned officers we must absolutely carry on the tradition of excellent leadership that has come before us. This leadership comes in many forms under many different conditions. As there are no two people who are exactly alike, there is no single way to lead. Leadership is learned not born; one must utilize personal traits and experiences to find his way of leading. I draw some of my leadership style and experience from leading a football team, O.C.S., and principles I have learned from my parents, while others may draw on school, physical challenges, or any other of their personal experiences. This doctrine is meant to help the leader understand the excellence that they are inheriting, and to give guidance on developing one's own leadership style.…

The Hegelian definition of tragedy is defined as good intentions will collide in a finite area where those good intentions will develop a tragedy. Beckett’s Endgame can be included within the definition of the Hegelian tragedy. Both main characters in the play had good intentions, but were formed through obligations. These good intentions through obligation made the novel suitable to be a Hegelian tragedy.…
