Endangered Species
An endangered species is a population of organisms, which is facing high risk of becoming extinct because it is either few in numbers, or threatened by changing environmental or predation parameters. There are a lot of endangered species in the world right now. They are moving towards being extinct slowly. In fact, since a species is not declared extinct until years have gone by since it was last spotted. Tigers are among the animals that are endangered in Asia. The tiger is native to Asia from the Caucasus and the Caspian Sea to Siberia in the north and Indonesia and even in Borneo and the Philippines in the south. There are a few breeds of tigers that still exist in this world. According to WWF (World Wildlife Fund) there are only 3200 tigers left in this world. There are 9 subspecies of tigers, The Bengal Tiger, The Indochinese tiger, The Malayan Tiger, The Sumatran Tiger, The Siberian Tiger, The South China Tiger, The Bali tiger, The Caspian Tiger, The Java Tiger. Three of the nine subspecies of tigers, which is The Bali tiger, The Caspian Tiger and The Java Tiger, are known to be extinct for a long time. The other subspecies of tigers are in danger of extinction. Tigers are classified as endangered species because the numbers of tigers are decreasing very fast. Extensive habitat and fragmentation has forced tigers to live in small, isolated pockets of remaining habitat, making it harder for tigers to reproduce. The expansion of human activities in tiger habitat led into overhunting of tiger prey species. This problem has become more of an issue due to the natural environment of tigers being destroyed at an alarming rate.
