Unit 9 Assignment 1: Reviewing a Profile

1. Profiles belong to a very “stretchy” and versatile genre. These profiles of Griffith Park differ greatly, but they both describe the same place.
a. Each profile discusses different points. One profile talks about narrative, and the other one talks more about the location, and then times and regulations.
b. They are both talking about Griffith Park, but they are both talking about different sub topics which cover different points.
c. The title gives you an insight of what the profile is going to be about, what main points you can guess will be discussed. Let’s you see what topic you will be discussing.
d. One talks about general information they have on Griffith Park, while the other one talks about some of the sight stand features that are offered in L.A.
e. The general information piece gave me more information about the park, and helps me understand it more. The other piece is explaining more of a dislike towards L.A which makes me lean towards not wanting to visit L.A.

2. The first profile is written for readers who visit the Los Angeles Recreation and Parks website, the second for people who enjoy reading Outside magazine. Use Google to find each website and speculate about the values and expectations of each set of readers. How would Outside readers react if they found “General Information” in the magazine? How would visitors to the Parks and Recreation website react if they encountered Percy’s profile?
I believe that the outsiders would like to be more informed about the place. People tend to like knowing more information before they visit a new place. The visitors would like Percy’s profile.
3. Which kind of profile would you most enjoy writ-ing? Or would you rather write something that falls between the two? Explain your choice. I would write something that falls in between both. I like to be informed about a place before I visit it, especially if it is somewhere foreign or new. I like to
