Every employee is covered by the employment act that is under a contract of service with an employer.

There are reasons behind the employment act they brought the employment act in around 1946. There have been various different ones brought in over the years. It was brought in because many people were over worked did to many hours and didn’t have enough rest time and children from a young age were working when they shouldn’t of been people were used as slaves. Legislation ensures workers remain safe in their workplace. It is updated on a regular basis. The employment act is a legislation within the UK which protects employees. All employees should be aware of their rights and responsibilities in their work place.

Why do we need health and safety?
Health and safety is very important as in the working environment there has been millions of deaths and accidents that health and safety can prevent happening. What ever job you are in there are always ways that people can have accidents or damage some ones health.

In the work place they have to identify hazards. Then assess the risk of the hazard. Risk control measures, they also have to record and report any accidents.
