Elvis Presley Early Childhood
Elvis Aaron Presley was born on January 8, 1935 in Tupelo, Mississippi with Gladys and Vernon Presley as his parents (“Early Childhood”). Although Elvis may have thought to be an only child, he had a twin brother who died at birth making Elvis the most important thing in Gladys's world (“Early Childhood”). Later in his life, at age 12, Elvis moved from Tupelo, Mississippi to Memphis, Tennessee with all of his relatives living in their house (“Early Childhood”). While Elvis attended Humes Highschool, he and his family struggled with money and Elvis was forced to got a job as a supply truck driver to help his family pay rent (“Elvis Presley: The Early Years”). (“Elvis Presley Is Drafted”) Elvis Presley was drafted on December 20, 1957 and was in the military for two years (Sterling). He had six months of training and was sent to Europe for the other eighteen months, with only two breaks (Sterling). During his time in the Army, Elvis got thousands of letters from fans asking if the they would spare his life and take him out, since he was such a world renown star (“Elvis Presley Is Drafted”). Although the Military normally didn’t discharge someone after they were drafted, they gave two breaks to Elvis so he could be with his mother when she died, and so he could finish his movie, King Creole (“Elvis Presley is Drafted”). As Elvis and his team were in Friedberg, Germany, Elvis’s General and leader promoted him from a specialist tank driver to a sergeant (“Elvis Presley Is Drafted”). Later after a battle, Elvis and his crew were celebrating a victory and his best friend introduced him to Priscilla Beaulieu, Elvis’s soon to be wife (“Elvis Presley Is Drafted”). Elvis’s time spent in the Army showed everybody how brave and resilient he was to risk his life for eighteen months and come back and continue his career as a rock and roller
