1. A Process of Writing A. Generating Ideas:
- One of the first points in writing would be to find a topic that you want to write about. Then figure out what you are going to say about the topic, which could often be one of the most difficult points in writing. · Discovering What to Write About - When you are trying to think of what to write about you may end up getting ideas while doing just everyday activities such as; watching television or talking with friends. · Discovering Material - In order to come up with ideas of what to write about on a specific topic you will need to find information, reports, and facts about it. You may need to talk with other people to get information about it or do some research on the internet. B. Planning, Drafting, and Developing: - In this section of writing you will plan out your paper, write your rough draft, and then develop your ideas further on. · Planning - Once you have figured out what you are writing about you will then plan out your paper by going through and figuring out what the most important and interesting things are to write about. · Drafting - While writing the draft just remember to always write down all ideas that you come up with because if you don’t you may forget them later on. · Developing - While developing always include example of things, explanations of ideas, and if there are things that may be difficult to understand. You may also want to define what it means. C. Revising and Editing: - In this section of revising and editing the most difficult parts are over with. · Revising - When you revise a paper you are looking over the work you have done and making changes so that you have the paper the way it should be. Also, when revising a paper if you put it away for a little while and go back to it later you may end up with better ideas or things to write in it. · Editing - When you edit the paper you will be improving your wording, taking words out that do not sound good and replacing them with words that do. You will also be checking the grammar and punctuation throughout the paper. · Proofreading - You will finally be proofreading the paper by checking to see if it's all correct and making sure everything is spelt and sounds right.
2. Purpose and Audience - At any time of you writing the paper there is always two questions to ask yourself. - Why am I writing? - Who is my audience? · Writing for a Reason - In this section you will concentrate more on the purpose of the topic you are writing about. · Writing for Your Audience - In this section you want to think about how your paper relates to the reader. Also, think about what you can say to get the reader more interested in what it's about. Summary Chapter 1 explains the process of writing. It helps you know how to start out writing a paper and helps you know how to come up with ideas on what to write about. This chapter will also explain to you how to plan out what topic you want to write about and will explain all the other processes of writing a paper. Such as, in the drafting section it will explain exactly what to do when you’re ready to write your rough draft. In the last section of this chapter it will explain to you the revising and editing portion of your paper. It will explain to you on exactly the best way to go about on making changes. It will explain to you that you need to go through and figure out what you want to leave in the paper and what to leave out of it. It also explains while editing you will go through and improve your wording and correct things that your reader may not understand. Last but not least you will proofread the paper by going through and check to make sure that everything is correct. Response One key idea I think was important was the Generating Ideas section. The main reason I think its important is because it helps the writer know how to come up with ideas on what to write about and how it could be written. It also explains where the writer can get information and facts on what to write about. Another key idea I felt was important was the Planning, Drafting, and Developing section of the chapter. The main reason I think its important is because it explains to the writer how to plan out their paper. It will also help you to know the correct way to write a rough draft. It also explains that the writer should put examples to things in their paper so the reader knows exactly what the writer is talking about.
