According to popular legend, Edgar Allan Poe died alone in a gutter, drunk and beaten down by the world around him. While Poe dying in a gutter was not the exact location of his death, many believe that he did die of alcoholism. However, others believe that his death was due to rabies, encephalitis, or exposure. However, one thing is certain. Poe’s death is still shrouded in mystery to this day.
In most articles, one possible cause of Poe’s death is attributed to alcoholism. Close to Poe’s death, he was spotted in a tavern, dressed in another man’s clothes and semiconscious.
