ECE 214: The Developing Child Birth to Age Eight
Theory Page Assignment Description—will not be graded if not presented as a single page.

Each student will be responsible for creating a page for a theorist who is important in the field of early childhood education/child development.
The front page must contain the following information:
-Name of your selected theory
-Background information of the theorist –name, age, origin, education, and photograph (must include a photograph)
-What was their stance on development?
a. How well can developmental outcomes be predicted from early life-- Continuity vs. Discontinuity?
b. How do heredity and environment influence development-- Nature vs. Nurture?
c. What role do children have in their own development—Active vs. Passive?
d. Is development in different domains connected—Connected vs. Disconnected?
-Their impact on early childhood education; how they are important for those in early childhood education.
-In a sentence, how did the theorist explain child development?
The back page must contain the following information:
-Interview a teacher of young children. Find out whether they are applying any aspect of your theory/theorist (i.e., Piaget, Vygotsky, Skinner, Freud, Erikson, Gesell, Bandura, Maslow, and/or Rogers, etc.) in their everyday teaching or interaction with young children. Possible questions include: How are you influenced by developmental and/or learning theory (you’re your theorists)? Describe how you apply the theory of (name your theory). If you are not satisfied observe their classroom if you see aspects of your theory in their practice.
-References and your personal information.
